Isle of Capri

We are going to be in Naples for one day via cruise. We are considering Isle of Capri. Wanting to know if others have done the organized tour vs on your own. Please give us your thoughts. Thanks much.

Hi C&D - You really don't need an organised tour - it's so easy to do Capri on your own.

There are regular hydrofoil departures to Capri from Molo Beverello dock in Naples.

The highlights of Capri IMO are -

- Monte Solaro (- chairlift to the summit from Anacapri for spectacular views)
- Marina Piccola
- Capri town

You can easily do those on your own - no need for a guide. JMHO ...

Steve

P.S. You can find the hydrofoil timetable (- timetables vary seasonally - check just before you leave) on:

Isle of Capri is charming, but if I had one day off a cruise ship in Naples I would head for Pompeii - which is indescribably incredible.

Capri is very charming. Take the chairlift to the summit.

If anyone offers you a glass with some yellow concoction in it.. smile sweety, and drink.

I agree with mytraveler go to Pompeii instead. I've been to both and though Capri is fun Pompeii is awesome. You can easily take a train and hire a guide when you get there as guides are all over the place. I preferred the audio guide because you can take as long as you want wondering around but whatever a person feels is right for them.

I agree, if you can do either one, no contest IMO, Pompeii. I was fortunate to do both many years ago and have lovely memories. Capri is BEAUTIFUL but Pompeii is indescribable but depends on what your interests are. Your question, tho, is if you need a tour for Capri, I agree, no. Steve-James gave concise info.

Thank you everyone. We did tour Pompeii 3 years ago and hiked to the top of Vesuvius (almost killed me but I did it). This time we thought Capri would be charming and less 'historical'. Most of our trip is ruins and mosques and churches... I think I'll need a break for sure! Thank you Steve-James for the detailed suggestion.

I'll be disappointed if I don't get the yellow drink offer as I'll be wondering what it was...
