I thought the size was puzzling also - especially when we received the very small booster card.

Hi Stu
I was also vaccinated in San Mateo County - at the Expo Center drive through site. And also dealing with the original 8 1/2 x 11 vaccination sheet with CDC card copied on. Guess it will get a trip to France with us! Have a great trip - I enjoy following your insightful guides.

If you've been vaccinated in California, the state has an app with a QR code listing all of your shots and it updates for the booster. Go to the ca.gov web site and find it.

That is what I found--the staffer responsbie for checking the pass had a scanner and everyone I was on line with had the PS (Nov 3-20). I had no experience with tourist using a CDC card.

That's what we saw. The only time we used the CDC cards was at the pharmacy to get our Pass Sanitaire. Everyone had it on their phones. It was quick and simple.

We are in Strasbourg now and all the restaurants (including the eating area with tables at the Christmas market!) we’ve been to require a pass sanitaire. My husband and I both applied for a PS just before the website stopped accepting applications, my husband got his but I did not. Go figure. Just walked in to a pharmacie at Gard du Nord, took a couple minutes to turn my CDC card in a PS. It cost 36.40 euros.

We’ve been in Paris for 3 days, 4 people - everyone just has cdc cards and that’s all they want to see - we’ve been to museums, restaurants, food and wine tour, etc. CDC card is all we’ve needed. They ask for passé sanitiere, we flash the cdc, quick glance, merci. As recommended, I’m using a copy of my cdc card (I do have the original on but haven’t taken it out since we arrived in Europe 2 weeks ago) and it’s never been questioned (same in Italy where we spent the 10 days prior to arriving in Paris).

Indeed, it took me longer to read this thread than to download TousAntiCovid to my iphone and add my UK NHS Covid pass which got converted to an EU COVID pass. It took minutes. The UK COVID pass already has a QR code and strictly speaking does not need to be converted, perhaps the CDC card does not have a QR code, hence the aforementioned issues. The below link has another link to apply for the COVID certificate for foreign nationals, which then says the previous procedure was closed down.

You might need a digital pass for long train rides or flights within Europe.

Happy to report they worked fine for that as well - returned home yesterday and CDC cards worked for all flights coming and going as well as between Naples and Paris, long and short train rides and everything in between across multiple cities in Italy as well as Paris (including clearing customs when changing planes in Germany both ways) Most but not all restaurants checked them, some really looked, some just needed to see one of us had one and then they waved us all in, a few didn’t ask. It was a great 2 weeks!

Another recent example in case it helps someone: We were in Paris on Dec. 6 and 7. Obtained the Pass Sanitaire at the pharmacy in the departures hall near Check-In Desk 8 in Terminal 2E at Charles de Gaulle. It took about 5-10 minutes and cost 36 euros to convert our CDC cards to EU digital COVID certificates. We were asked to show our passes at the sitting areas at the Tuileries Christmas market, the Eiffel Tower, and in cafes and restaurants. None of the department stores nor boutiques asked for it.

No, the US CDC card is just a small ID-size paperboard card with handwriting on it (name, dates and brands of vaccine and store). It has no QR code, and the US Fed govt gives you no way to get one. My state registry has some app where pharmacies are supposed to report your vaccinations (by law, I think), but the one I used won't do it. I mean I've tried phone call after phone call and everyone keeps blaming someone else as to why it doesn't show up (my booster), my first two shots showed up from a different pharmacy just fine. I'll admit I'm a little confused on those QR code things as I thought they were specific to the database or app they used and that France, for example, wouldn't be able to read some state QR code in the US. But I'm no techno expert, so don't know. But the US has no Federal one.

Tripplanner001, could you explain your comments a little? It's just a little confusing as you talk about the departure hall and yet you say you used it in Paris so you obviously didn't get it upon departure. Were you somehow able to go from the Arrivals area to the Departure Hall to do that, and how did you even know that is what you should do? It wouldn't occur to me to get a French document in the departures area rather than arrivals area. The Arrivals level is different from the Departures where I've been. What terminal was this? Could you just go with no security from Arrivals to Departure level?

thanks

Both my husband and I had applied online for the passe sanitaire. I received mine. He didn't. Both he and my daughter obtained their passes for 35 euros at a pharmacy around the corner from our hotel. We were also asked to show the passe at every restaurant and some of the stalls at the Tuileries Christmas Market.

We arrived at Charles de Gaulle Airport in Paris. Upon exiting baggage claim, we asked an airport employee where the nearest pharmacy is located. They directed us to the departures level on the second floor of the same building as arrivals (arrivals is on the ground floor) in Terminal 2E. The pharmacy is located near the check-in desks pre-security.

French health pass

We have just returned from a week in Paris (Dec 9-17). On arrival we went to the Pont Neuf pharmacy with our vaccine cards and passports. They were busy and we had to leave both items ---which I have to say made me feel a bit uneasy. An hour later we received the health pass and loaded it into the app which was very easy. The cost was 36EU per pass but so glad we opted to do this because we were asked to show it in every single restaurant, the market at the Tuileries and the one museum (Musee Mailol) we went to. We even had to present it a Starbucks when we sat outside. I highly recommend getting the pass vs hoping a restaurant will accept the US CDC vaccination card.
