Are you ready for the French keyboard layout? You're in for a nervous breakdown. Don't know if it's feasible to bring your own laptop and hook it up to a landline at an Internet place so that you're not exposed to the risks of unprotected wifi. Does anybody here know?

I don't think it's that hard to use a French keyboard unless one is typing a novel or something.

CG888... I think you should be able to find the addresses provided and look at a map. Then you'll know if it's close to the Le Grand Hotel. Or check it out on the french yellow pages.

I'm sure there are more places than my list - and PagesJaunes doesn't list them all, either. Just ask your concierge or take a walk around your immediate area. The place I use in the 14th is upstairs over a video store; it isn't listed in PJ.

Or just look at a map. I don't have a map of Paris nearby but the site I provided gives addresses.

Most cafes do have a few QWERTY keyboards. The French keyboard is a pain for A, W and M. The numbers and the period are a shift up and the @ for email is a control or alt -- I forget which.

I used the Oden Cybercube several times last week as well as one not on your list in the Marais at 8 rue Jouy just off Francois-Miron near the new Jewish Museum.

Every internet cafe I've been in had Ethernet connections that customers can plug into.

With a firewall and anti-virus in place, your own computer is as safe as it is at your home or office.

But when you type on a "house" computer, you are trusting to luck that someone isn't logging your keystrokes.

So never mind the French keyboard - figure out how to get your own machine to Paris. The sub-notebooks are under 1kg now, so you can carry one all day without effort.
