How many days in Praguee

I'm just beginning to research our trip--planning for first week of July (we're last minute people); we have a week would you suggest staying in Prague the entire time with day trips taken from Prague? Our other choice would be to split our time between Prague and traveling to one more place such as Vienna or Budapest?. I know it will depend on what we like to do etc. What does everyone think? Thanks for any help.

I think it depends mostly on how much depth you like in one place. I love Prague, but a week might be too long for many people. If you really have seven total days, you could divide it in half -- half Prague and half Vienna, would be my choice. You do lose time travelling from one to the other. Also are you getting an open-jaw flight? into one and out of the other? If not, the travel time would eat up alot of your total time.

Prague is beautiful and interesting but two or three days would be enough. I think it will be very crowded in July, so you may want to visit the sights/sites that interest you and move on, either to a town in the country or on to Vienna or Budapest.

I think you need to decide ASAP and make reservations.

We spent 6 days in Prague and found it fascinating. If you do day trip try to hit Cesky Krumlov for sure.

Thanks for all your replies. If you had to pick between Vienna or Budapest after Prague which would you pick with the remaining 2-3 days.

Budapest for me, but you should probably research both and see which is a better fit for you.

IMHO Prgue needs at lest 3 days - more if y ou're going to take day trips. You can do 2 cities in a week - with no day trips - but would be cutting each short. And I would do Budapest over Vienna.

I would say that 3 days is minimum for Prague. We stayed seven and there was plenty to see and do. IMHO Vienna is a better choice not only because it is a great contrast to Prague, but you can get there much more quickly than to Budapest. We went to Vienna from Prague by bus and returned by train. Both took about the same time, particularly since the bus leaves you in the heart of Vienna. The bus was a fraction of the train price.
