Hotels with AC
I've been looking at hotels in Amsterdam, Brussels, and Luxembourg City. I am looking for hotels with air conditioning; however, on the websites I never see it explicitly mentioned as an amenity. I am generally looking at 3* and higher.
Does that star level guarantee air conditioning? Or do I need to email?
I'm a little concerned as I was thinking of using Priceline....but since this amenity is very important to my husband, then I might have to re-think that strategy.
Thank you in advance for your help!

Air conditioning is not normal for hotels in Amsterdam. The big chain hotels will have it, probably, but most smaller, more charming hotels probably won't. For the three days a year it may be beneficial it isn't worth the expense of installing it.
I suspect the same is true in Brussels and Luxembourg too.
Besides it's far better for the environment not to have airco. Open a window instead.

By all means use Priceline for Amsterdam! There have been great bargains there now for over a year.
Go to the Netherlands forum at http://tripadvisor.com and look for the "Bidding on a 4 star in the Centrum" and "Bidding on a 5 star"... have a look at http://betterbidding.com and http://biddingfortravel.com With those 2 sites plus the forum threads you are unlikely to be disappointed.
You should be able to get an A/C room for 100 dollars or less.

Most booking sites or hotel websites will specifically mention if they have A/C. Some hotels in Luxembourg have some rooms with A/C and some without and the price per night reflects the difference.
I just returned from Luxembourg City and used booking.com to get a room with A/C at the Sofitel for 130Euro/night.

I am pretty sure that every 4* hotel in Amsterdam (and probably just about anywhere) that has yet been posted as a result of a Priceline bid has air conditioning. I suppose there's a remote chance that a 4* hotel might pop up that has never been seen before, and which doesn't have air conditioning, but the odds are really against it.

In northern europe many 3* hotels will NOT have AC - since it isn't usually necessary for that many days - and europeans are used to doing without. (However, it can easily get hot enough to need it for several days in a row). Do not use Priceline - which will not guarantee AC unless you go for 5* deluxe hotels.
Try other discount sites instead and make sure the hotel says AC.

Star ratings in europe are not necessarily the same as in the US. If you want to be sure of getting AC don;t book anything without getting specific info. (Many hotels called 4* in europe would be 3* - or tourist - in the US).

Hotels which have A/C in A-dam where it can get VERY muggy in the Summer will ALL mention it,,,either as a room amenity or otherwise.
The rather snarky implication above that somehow hotels which are air conditioned are somehow not as "charming" as some others does a disservice IMO.
Why would any hotel situated in a city where "air conditioning isn't necessary" have paid to install and maintain it?
There's nothing LESS "charming" IMO than sleeping in a hot stick airless room at night, in Amsterdam or anywhere else and I don't care WHO is in bed with you.
Stick to your guns about the A/C..you can find it.
