Hotels near Arc de Triomphe

My mom and I will be going to Paris for a couple of days in December and as the Arc de Triomphe is one of my favorite monuments i would like to stay within close view (if possible). I have found the Best Western Plaza Elysees at 177 BLD HAUSSMANN - PARIS, FRANCE 75008. The webpage indicates that it is "near" the Arc de Triomphe. has anyone stayed at this hotel or does anyone have an idea how close it is? the price is good (about $159/night), but I want to check it out location wise

We stayed at Hotel Lord Byron, which is within a 2 minute walk of the Arc de Triomphe (rue Chateaubriand), in August. No view of the Arc, but we walked round the corner onto the Champs Elysee each morning for coffee and croissants, fabulous. The cost per night was 130 Euros. The room was small, but overlooked a pretty garden/

The hotel is on a busy corner on Wagram I beleive which is a main road leading to the Arc de Triomphe cirlce. It is perhaps a block away. I would definately ask for a quiet room. My friends stayed there and were quite happy.

Caligirl, what is it about the Arc de Triomphe that intrigues you? Historical, Architectual? I am asking because it was the one monument that I could not wait to leave, so I know I must be missing something.

We stayed at the Hotel Tilsitt Etoile which is at 23 rue Brey and a few blocks from the Arc. There are a couple of restaurants on the same street like Etoile Vert.

LTR: I really just think it's a beautiful monument. I love to watch the sun rise and set over it. I enjoy the view of the Arc from afar and it always looks great on postcards and pictures I would love my mum to have an opportunity to see it up close and personal for herself. Also, I have never been to th e top of the monument, so maybe we will try that this time.

Thanks to all for your feedback!

Take a look at a 3* hotel I stayed at near the Arc, I liked it a lot:

http://www.france-hotel-guide.com/h75017regence.htm

It's about your price range, a little more, but it's very close to the Arc, much closer than bd Haussman (map is on there). Now I really liked it, but haven't been there in years -- however, it still gets very good reviews on Tripadvisor.

I don't know the BW, but that address is very near the Jacquemart Andre museum, I believe, which is lovely. That part of town seems a bit dead to me (it is not near Wagram, and Haussman bd doesn't cross Wagram). Bd Haussman turns into ave Friedland which goes to the Arc. It's probably about 800 meters from the Arc, close to half mile.

I can vouch for the hotel mentioned by Christine, Hôtel La Régence Etoile
24, avenue Carnot 75017 PARIS • France.

It is a pleasant hotel, with nice rooms and is in the area you wish to be in. For being so close to the traffic circle at the Arc it is nice and quiet.

Cali -- I went back to Paris this September and got to go to the top of the Arc de Triomphe for the first time.

It was fabulous! They play music near sunset with a military band at the bottom of the Arch, and lay flowers at the tomb of the Unknown Soldier below. Then you can go up and catch the sunset and the views are just spectacular -- I'd argue one of the best in Paris since it's so central.

Also -- I didn't know this until my Mom was approaching the steps with her cane -- but they actually have an elevator (they call it a "lift&quot in one of the legs of the arch, and if your Mom is with you, you just need to ask and you both can get a ride up and down.

Enjoy!

The acenseur is behind an unmarked door in the westernmost leg of the Arch, and provides access to the museum level, one story below the observation deck. There is a rather difficult flight of stairs connecting the two, so anyone with severely impaired mobility might not be able to enjoy the view from the roof.

A friend who was an attendant for 30+ years with TWA, always always stayed at:
Quality Amarante Pierre Arc de Triomphe.
I never did but that is where she stayed, sort of for the same reasons you write.
Good luck.

Thanks for mentioning the hotel I suggested, Curt -- I forgot to name it. It's good to hear from someone who's stayed there more recently. Actually, when I stayed there (around 1988), I had a wonderful room that was so charming and quaint (full tiled bath, flowered bedspread and curtains, overlooked the street) but nicely decorated. It was what you picture as that quaint French hotel -- however, from the website they have renovated since my stay and it's a little more modern and straightforward now, but it still looks comfortable and pleasant enough. My room was pretty large, also, in comparison to typical Parisian rooms as I recall, but that may be random luck.

Looks like I need to go back to the Arc near sunset. I did go to the top in the Elevator because I was there 2 weeks after Rotator Cuff surgery. Maybe I will enjoy it more when I am not on pain pills.

I do admit the view was fabulous, but the view (after the rain) from the Eiffel tower of a rainbow over Sacre Couer was unbelievable.

Robespierre -- Thanks for the French word. The lady just looked at us and said "Lift?" for which we were thankful. We didn't know about the additional steps, but my aunt with two very bad knees and a heck of a lot of gumption made it to the top.

She took it slow, and thankfully the few people stuck behind were very patient.

If they installed anything resembling handrails, it would have been even easier.

We stayed at another Best Western near L'Arc de Triomphe called Elysees Regencia. It was very nice, located on a quiet street about one block away; however, I'm not sure you'll be able to actually see the arch from the hotel. It's also near Tour Eiffel.

You could check out the location of the hotel you've chosen on Mapquest and see if you can see how close it is.

Try the Bradford Elysees (Best Western) 4 Stars

We stayed there for the last 4 years and never had any problems. The rooms are modern and big with a deck view of the Eiffel Tower.
