Next month is fairly short notice; many of the popular small places will likely be booked. Try plugging your dates into the venere.com site to see what is available (prices will be shown for your *total* stay.)

Then come back here and check Rants & Raves and text search for the hotels that interest you; there is TONS of information already here. Frommers.com is a good site, too. After you've narrowed things down a bit, reply to this post with further specific questions and we'll be happy to help.

Venice is tough for finding a double under 100 euro. I dont use rants and raves very much because the cost information is outdated but I would do a search for Venice on the board and you will find there are hundreds of comments on hotels in Venice that have already been posted. Many people on here get tired of posting the same info again and again so the search is a good way to go.

I second the Casci in Florence.

Try the Galleria in Venice and if they're full ask them about Albergo San Trovaso (I think a sister hotel). Stayed there a few years ago for about $100 per night. Seven pleasant rooms, but a forgettable breakfast.

Here is a re-posting from a previous thread - I highly reccommend this place!

I stayed at this convent in July of 2001 and it was fantastic!
My room was large, two twin beds, antique furniture, marble fireplace, and a bathroom bigger than the one I have at home.
Its located just outside the city centre, but there are good bus links nearby - I just walked and it only took about 10 minutes. The convent takes up one full city block (maybe more)It is walled off from the 'outside' world and has beautiful gardens that guests are permitted to stroll through.
There is complimentary continental breakfast in a breakfast room that looks like it should be part of a museum.
Upon arrival the Madre Superiore took me on a mini tour of the building and was very friendly though sopke little English.
I paid only about $55CAD a night, and for the type of accommodation I received would have paid much more...
They don't have a website, so if you want to see pictures mail them and they will send you a brochure. Make sure to ask for the nicest room - some are smaller and behind the library whereas mine was at the front of the building and faced out onto the gardens.
If you have a car you can park it for free inside the gates, so it will be perfectly secure during the night.

Villa Merlo Bianca of the Istituto Suore di S. Giovanni Battista
Via di Ripoli, 82
50126 Firenze
Itlalia

Phone: 39 055 6802394
Fax: 39 055 680 2394

There are a lot of good places in Venice for under $100 a night. It's been a couple of years since we've been there, so I hesitate to recommend any particular one. But see if this link works for you--try the one and two star properties. http://turismo.regione.veneto.it/en/ric/alberghi/index.htm

or http://turismo.regione.veneto.it/en/ric/alberghi/index.htm

or if staying on Murano with a short vaporetto trip to get to the main city is OK: http://www.venicehotel.it/venice_hotel.htm
