Hotels in Stockholm

I knew that Stockholm was expensive but WOW! Hotels are advertised as a good value for $389. I am considering the Clarion Stockholm that is closer to $300 a night (and also the Clarion Gabelshus in Oslo.) Have any of you stayed at either of these hotels? Freys was
not available. Arcadia scared me with a review stating there were bedbugs???? Help! Any suggestions for under $300 and decent?

Look at www.scandichotels.com In Stockholm, both the Scandic Hasselbacken and the Scandic Park are very nice hotels, well located for seeing the sights. They offer a discount for paying in advance.Buy a transit card and you'll be all set.

Old Gabelshus fan here...lovely place, ivy-covered in the embassy residential district, walk or tram everywhere...great buffet bkfsts...rates now are probably in the $200+ vicinity.

Try The Mornington in Stockholm..very pleasant and far more reasonable than the quotes you provided.,,excellent brekfast included.

I, too, was shocked at Stockholm hotel prices. Somehow, I was able to secure a double room with SAS Raddison at $120/night (July stay) using Orbitz.com. This info goes back 4 years, but to make the point to continue researching.

Thank you all! These are all rates given by the hotels themselves. I thought that might be preferable to using an Orbitz,e.g. Maybe not.I do need 2 rooms, non-smoking, seeing if they offer senior discounts (Clarions don't) Inquired about parking, etc..That's why I e-mailed the hotels directly, to answer all those queries. By the way, the Gabelshus is now $286.26 for a double. I will look into the other suggestions and also the .com links for better rates. How about a suggestion for Goteborg?

ediemay-- used to be that calling hotels directly was the way to go. Hotels had forego a lot of their reservations business to online consolidators; try orbitz.com, hotels. com, lastminute.com, even priceline bidding.

edie.....rates seem to have gone through the roof...4 years ago we paid $140 for Gabelshus (it had not yet become a Clarion property which could explain the large increase)...at Mornington which is (or was) British-owned was in the vicinity of $120...just checked their web...now it's a Best Western. Mornington also has a hotel in Goteborg. We found that the Stockholm location was very convenient...easy walk to Gamle Stan, etc.
