Look at Scandic hotels. They have several nice properties there.

How many people? What budget? What time of year?

Östermalm and Norrmalm have alot of hotels and is pretty central. You'll find most hotels in these areas. There are some in Gamla Stan but you don't need to stay there as you can walk to it from most central areas. Staying by the waterfront is very nice.

I've booked a hotel on the waterfront in the Nacka district, but looking at a map of Stockholm, I'm thinking from a tourist's point of view, Norrmalm and especially near the Central Station, looks like a better bet to stay. Can someone please comment on this view?
thanks

The hotel in Nacka might be ok if there is a ferry close by which will take you to the city centre. DId you check that and what times it operates? What time of year are you going?

but I'm thinking that it just may be easier to base ourselves centrally for the "tourist" sites/museums etc

thanks

barry, I am not an expert on Stockholm but we looked at Nacka when I was planning my trip. I ended up ruling it out because I didn't want to rely on public transportation too much. We ended up staying at Sheraton Stockholm which is very centrally located. I think there are other hotels, which do not break the bank and are still within walking distance to major attractions in Gamlastan and surrounding area.

Diplomat, Berns, Grand and Nobis are all in the nicest parts of town, and very central. I'd go for Diplomat, best location in Strandvägen. There are a few more but I can't remember their names.

I've only been to the hotel in Nacka for a couple of seminars and I didn't like it, plus you'd have to spend a lot of time on public transportation unless you rent a car.

The Sheraton is not in a good area, in my opinion.

We stayed at Berns.

Incredible architecture. The dining room is like a film set.

The Scandic hotels offer good value as do SAS but you could be anywhere.
