Hotels in Siena and Venice
Has anyone ever stayed at the Palazzo Ravizza in Siena? I have tried to contact them via email and fax (which is what they requested) to confirm a room, and no one has replied (over a week now). For those who've stayed there, good or bad review of it please.
Also, any ideas of hotels in Venice? Looking for around the $250 night range (with canal view preferred), but am having trouble finding any available the end of September 2005. Any ideas are much appreciated!

I can recommend La Pensione Accademia in Venice. Our room overlooked a small side canal, and we could also see the Grand Canal. I believe the price was right around $250/night this past October. Great location and friendly staff. Web address is www.pensioneaccademia.it

We stayed at the gorgeous Palazzo di Valli when it first opened- and just loved it. We had luscious views from all windows. Great neighborhood restaurant down the across the street/down the corner.

Spacious rooms, murals, very good value and wonderful spot.

Casa Rezzonico in Venice has some rooms with a canal view (not the Grand Canal--a small canal near Campo Santa Margherita). We paid 145 Euro, which would be about $200. We really enjoyed our stay there.

Several posters here adore La Calcina, which will give you a marvelous view and location. They book up very quickly, though.

On not getting a reply from your Siena hotel selection - the hotel might be closed for the winter, or for the month. Check the website, and see if you can tell. This happened to me when making travel reservations (to different hotels) at about this time last year.

Hi rjs - We stayed at the Palazzo Ravizza in May 2004. Edited from my trip report...We had a junior suite with a balcony (the only room with a balcony). We both loved the hotel! The view out into Tuscany was absolutely amazing! We used our balcony to enjoy the views, but there was a gorgeous garden area below that would have been great to sit on too. Parking was free and secure. The bathroom had great toiletries, but shower left the floor very wet. The location was a few blocks from Il Campo. The breakfast was standard European. We highly recommend this hotel.
As far as their no response, I know they responded to my emails within 2-3 days. I would recommend resending it to confirm they received it or call them. Good luck!

I personally don't like Siena that much. But Pensione Palazzo Ravizza is definately worth staying. Be sure to ask for a room on the 5th floor, facing the garden, so you can have a breathtaking view of the Tuscany hills. We took so many pictures from our hotel window and one of them is still set as our wallpaper on our home computer. I still remember how I was disappointed when we first got to Siena (which almost made me feel claustrophobic), but as soon as we got to the hotel and opened the window, I felt just for this view, the whole trip was worthy.
I think I contacted them through their official website. http://www.palazzoravizza.it/bookings.htm. The staff there was very friendly and helpful. Hope you can reserve a room soon. Good luck.

I want to thank you all for your responses. I believe that the Palazzo Ravizza must be closed, at least this week. I have sent several emails and a couple faxes with no response. I'll try calling, but I'm sure they would have responded if they were open. Not giving up though...we really want to stay there if we can. We did end up booking Hotel American, with a canal view, in Venice. I read some very good reviews on that hotel.

Hi, I was in Venice April of 2004, We stayed at a great hotel and had a suite for $220 Euro per night!! In fact it is the only place I will stay in Venice Now!! The Hotel is Locanda Orseolo right off of St. Marks Square on the Orseolo Canel. It was busy during the day but pretty quite during the night!!
Barbara and her husband made us feel right at home with a terrific breakfast in the morning!! I can't wait to go back!!
