Best Hotels/B&Bs in Venice

Hello! My husband and I are planning a long weekend in Venice in December. Neither of us has been there before and I would love to stay somewhere that feels warm and inviting (to go with the Christmas spirit). Does anyone have any suggestions? Suggestions as to where to eat, shop, etc. are greatly appreciated as well!
Thanks!

We also loved La Calcina. Totally worth it to pay extra for a canal front room. Gorgeous view of the Giudecca canal, great location, fabulous, elegant little hotel. (Terrible hotel restaurant though.)
