Hotels in Copenhagen
We are going on a transatlantic cruise in April/May 2014 and want to spend several days in our final port - Copenhagen. We are looking for an affordable, clean hotel not too far from Tivoli Gardens. We would love any suggestions. Thanks in advance.

I don't know what you consider affordable, but The Square is nicely situated near Tivoli and city hall square at one end of the Stroget. I considered it moderately priced for such an expensive city.

Maybe the Clarion Mayfair. It is very near Tivoli Gardens and basically around the corner from the train station. It worked out very well for me when I did my TA cruise. They have food included that is going on all the time too

I have previously stayed at the Square also and very much enjoyed the central location there as well.

Angela...a little further out is our favorite, Ibsen's Hotel. It was owned and managed by women (may still be) and is in the Nansengade neighborhood on a quiet street...a block from the lake and a pleasant walk to Norreport, the Stroget and Tivoli. We have stayed there twice and have sent family and friends, all of whom loved it.
Very large and comfortable rooms, especially those with beamed ceilings on the top floor. It also has a restaurant on the premises and cafes nearby. The last time we were there the tariff was about $180 if I recall. With several days you will find plenty to see and do, with frequent day trip trains leaving from Norreport.

Angela, you may want to check the dates you'll be in Copenhagen. The Copenhagen marathon is scheduled for May 18th with 10,000 participants so hotel rooms will be expensive and hard to find. Some hotels are already sold out.

I can recommend the Bertrams Hotel Guldsmelden. I stayed there once and absolutely loved it. Nice and individually arranged rooms and delicious organic breakfast buffet! Its about 15 mins walking distance from Tivoli! http://guldsmedenhotels.com/Bertrams...agen-Home.aspx

Copenhagen is expensive, we have been looking at Ibsens for August before a cruise. Actually have reserved at the Bethel hotel in the Nyhavn area. Friends had stayed at the Strand in that area and loved it, got a great rate with breakfast and said it was a wonderful location, convenient to everything. Well they got the CityMini rate which was like $193 with breakfast in early July, 2013. However, that rate is not available in August. The Bethel for a basic double in August for 2 is about $173 (945kr) but I think it is less earlier in the year. It includes breakfast, wifi, coffee and tea throughout the day. It use to be a Seamens hotel, right on a canal. May be a bit noisy but on Trip Adviser got better reviews than Ibsens. Rick Steves has both in his book.
Have a great trip, we are really looking forward to it.
