www.cabinn.dk the 'city" one is best location. We hav stayed at the one in Aerhus and it was alright but the rooms are small. The bath room is so small that my DH said he could do 2 or 3 things at the same time in there!!

There is a new Hotel called "The Square" right on Radhuspladsen (City Hall Square). The pedestrian area Stroget is just steps away. So is Tivoli.

While prices might exceed EUR 100.- just a little, you would be so centrally located that you would not need public transportation as almost everything is walking distance from there. The money saved on public transport would be wisely invested IMHO (although I don't know where the before mentioned CabInn would be in comparison).

The hotel is part of the Arp Hansen Group, a group of individual hotels in Copenhagen that appears to be very well managed.

The Square (while nothing much to look at from the outside) is brand new with rooms in wonderfully modern design - and actually might pass as 4-star standard IMO, if the hotel would not only offer a breakfast restaurant.

The service is friendly and I would stay there again in a heartbeat.

I'm right there with you, lin0825, trying to find a room in Copenhagen under 100 euros per night. Good luck to us, huh? Copenhagen is a very expensive city!

Another poster recommended Christies Bed and Breakfast, perfectly located in the Nyhaven district. Unfortunately, it was booked for the date we needed in May 2006. If you are able to book, good for you, because it looks wonderful, for just 74 euros per night:

http://www.bed-breakfast-copenhagen.com/index.htm

The owner of that B & B referred me to this online B & B and hotel booking site, which has some neat-looking offerings. Just be careful to check to see that the rooms are ensuite, because many aren't:

http://www.woco.dk/composite-415

Other hotels we're looking at that are within range of your price:

Absalom, (about 107 euros) ttp://www.absalon-hotel.dk/index.html

Hotel Guldsmeden (about 114 euros), http://www.hotelguldsmeden.dk/ (select English version and Copenhagen)

Hotel Selandia (about 107 euros), http://www.hotel-selandia.dk/

Those hotels all have decent Tripadvisor ratings and reviews.

For some reason this thread appears not to show up in the regular list of threads on the forum - at least I can only access it by clicking on my screen name.
Therefore I am topping it, hoping that this might cause it to become visible again.

I will add the URL for The Square:

http://www.thesquarecopenhagen.com/

and also the URL for the Arp Hansen Group of hotels:

Cab-Inn is a very nice chain of hotels. There are three in Copenhagen. The two older ones are about a 15-minute walk from city center, but I hear there is a newer one somewhere near tivoli. They have a website--Google "Cab-Inn"
The rooms are compact, like a ship's cabin (hence the name), but they have a TV and coffee-maker, and are ensuite, which is hard to find in your price range.

We, too, stayed in one of the Cab-Inns when we visited Copenhagen a few years ago. These hotels were the only ones in the city that we could find that came anywhere near our budget. As has been mentioned before, the rooms are very, very small. Everything is functional and moves out of the way according to your needs. But, the breakfast was a quite substantial self-serve buffet. With prices as they are in Copenhagen, I wouldn't hesitate at all to stay there again.

Topping this post in hopes of more input on budget accommodations in Copenhagen.

Anyone have any B & B recommendations?

The currency used in Denmark is the Danish krone. 100€ would be 746 DKK today. It will be tough to find something centrally located for that. If you want a hotel, the Cab Inn might be your best bet. I used to travel all summer and had to do so on a budget. A tourist office in the Central Train Station would make the arrangements for a B&B for me. That office has now moved across the street, but I think you can still make arrangements there for B&Bs. You can also book hotels there. I made these arrangments in person after arriving in Copenhagen. You might look at http://www.woco.dk/composite-30.htm; they may make arrangements on line for you. Good luck. Boots

There are several Ibis hotels near Hovedbanegard (the train station) that have rooms for just about 100 euro a night. We stayed at the Ibis Star - a very nice hotel with comfortable, generic (Courtyard by Marriott-ish) rooms. It had a very good breakfast buffet as well.

I used Priceline in 2003. I bid for a 3* hotel and got the Mermaid Hotel for well under $100 USD a night total. It's perfectly located with a great breakfast, and the room was fine for us, but others think differently (see TripAdvisor). You could consider bidding for a 4* on Priceline - see www.betterbidding.com and www.biddingfortravel.com to learn how and the possible pitfalls. But you likely could come in under budget. The most likely 4* hotel to get is the Marriott, but there are also less desirable possibilities.

Sometimes I have seen cheap rates for the Comfort Hotel Osterport. The location would be fine, except it's right next to (practically over) a train station, so might be noisy.

One budget guesthouse that I've seen recommended is Chickens: http://www.chickens.dk
But it has no ensuite rooms.

This new 5* hostel might have a private room that will work for you:
http://www.visitcopenhagen.dk/composite-1531.htm

The Radisson Falconer also has cheaper rates sometimes - but it is a bit out of the center.

Thanks, guys! I don't know if lin0825 has checked back in, but I'm haunting this thread for ideas for our May 2006 trip, and your comments are helpful.

This is a very nice chain. I would compare it to Holiday Inns/Holiday Inn Express.

Usually very reasonable, great locations.

Thanks, FrequentFlyer. The rate I get at a hotel in this chain is 217 euros, more than I hope to pay.

I do have the Ibis hotels in my sights, though. I'm finding rooms there for under $125 per night.

Any more ideas?

Zleep hotels are not that central, but transportation links are very good in Copenhagen. They're also pretty cheap and you get a double/twin ensuite room with breakfast. I've found good rates for them at http://www.laterooms.com and http://www.ryanairhotels.com .

<b>Mary_Fran</b>,

sorry it didn't work. Did you try Priceline?

Go to <b>www.biddingfortravel.com</b>, do some research there first as to what hotels are offered by Priceline and what's the going rate and give it a try. Priceline is not very good this far out, but at least you may get an idea of what's what. The few times I used Priceline I found that 2 months or less before the trip was the best time to start bidding.

Good luck!

I just looked and it looks like there were many succesful Priceline bids of $100 or under in the middle of last summer for the 4* Marriott Copenhagen.

Hey, AAFrequentFlyer! Thanks for the link to www.biddingfortravel.com. I had never checked it out before. I'll definitely keep an eye on their forum.

I'll book something as a backup a couple of months in advance but then continue to check www.biddingfortravel.com and give Priceline a shot as the date becomes closer.

I really like hotels with a regional flavor, preferably small and local, but we just really need to budget carefully on our trip this time because we'll have 25 days on the ground in Europe and plan to be in big cities, where prices tend to be high.

Thanks so much for the tip and for going out of your way for us paupers!

Definitely consider the new hostel. Danish hostels are clean and well-run. I wish they had had one in city center when we were there. We spent one night in the one at the airport but it was too far out of town. Hostels in Denmark are not just full of noisy backpackers. There are lots of families and senior citizens who stay in them. You can get a double room in this new hostel for well under 100 bucks a night, and the location sounds great! To stay in a Danish hostel, you usually either need to rent sheets, or bring your own sheetsack (a queen-sized flat sheet folded in half lengthwise and stitched up the side.)
