Hotels for 160 euros in Italy - Advice welcomed
I'm planning a trip for next May to Italy with the following Itinerary:

5 nights Rome
1 night Assisi
1 night Urbino (?)
3 nights Venice
3 nights Florence
5 nights Sorrento (may have a night or two in Capri or Amalfi coast)
1 night Rome

The hotel budget is 160 euros a night for two persons, and other than in Rome we would like to stay in the centers of the cities/towns although this may be tough given the budget.

Any suggestions as to hotels in these places?
Check out the Hotel Navona in Rome. Not sure of the price in May but it is 110 euros/night in November for a double. It is very close to Piazza Navona so I am thrilled with the location. www.hotelnavona.com It sounds good in the travel books I have found it in and the staff has been great to work with while I have been making my plans.

Janes
You are very lucky, unless you require high luxury, there are countless wonderful smaller hotels all over Italy for less than 100 EURO /night. Please don't think that you must spend big money for great places to stay. Get some books, check out convents or monasteries, etc. You might be forced to pay a little more in Venice, but in my opinion, 160 EURO tends to go to the high end for hotels in Rome, Assisi, Florence.

I hate to respond with no first-hand experience, but I have been thinking about going to Venice and there have been so many positive posts about La Calcina that it is my pick. And it appears from their website that a room with view in high season would be at the top of your budget. www.lacalcina.com

Also do a text search on calcina. You should find lots of recent info.

Likewise, Hotel Casci in Florence, though there seems to be a wide range in their rates even in high season.

http://www.venere.it/firenze/casci/

Jane, re Sue's post above. I've stayed at La Calcina and loved it. Would stay there again in a heartbeat. Wanted to stay at Casci in Florence but opted for a convent instead. Will stay there next time for sure. Highly recommend Due Torri in Rome. Check out Malvarina, an agriturismo outside Assisi--outstanding. By the way I heard about each of these locations on this forum.

Buon viaggio
