First trip to Italy, need hotel recommendations
Hi, my husband and I are going to Italy for the first time. We are looking for hotel recommendations in Venice, Florence, and Rome. We do not need anything fancy, just clean and safe. We do not want to spend more than USD $200 a night. Thanks!

Sorry - I would be quite surprised if any of the above hotels are in your price range - given the fall of the dollar vs the euro.
If you do a couple of searches above you will find tons of recos for modestly priced hotels in all 3 cities.

You're right NY. Probably only the Bernini. I am in the process of planning a trip for my sister here in Italy and the lowest prices I have found for doubles in these hotels so far is:
Bernini - 146 Euro per night
Raphael - 160 Euro per night
Monaco and Grand Canal - 185 Euro per night
Sorry about that.

lkcitaly,
I too am planning a first trip to Florence and Venice. Here are some of the places that I am considering that are in the range you mentioned, depending upon the time of year you are going.
Florence: Relais Uffizi, Hotel Silla, Hotel Casci, Tourist House Ghiberti, Soggiorno Antica Torre and Hotel Scoti.
Venice: Pensione La Calcina

For Venice,
In addition to La Calcina,
http://www.pensioneaccademia.it/
http://www.hotelbernardi.com/en/hotel.html

A less expensive place is http://www.veniceby.com/campaniel/pages/booking.htm
In Florence, would you be interested in saving about 90E/nite at a B&B?

Rome: Hotel Panda (www.hotelpanda.it)-wonderful location, good prices
Florence: Il Poggiolo (www.il-poggiolo.it)- located outside the city in the hills of Florence (don't stay here if you want to be right in the middle of things); cheap prices; kind and helpful lady runs it; beautiful
