hotels at $100 or under in london

Hi all,
Any ideas for a place to stay in london with my husband for 4 nights in Nov. We want a good location, CLEAN, firm bed, bathroom you can move around in and nice people at the desk. We don't expect the ritz or embassy suites, but would like something that has comfort. a little character would be nice, too (warmth). I have searched this site, but hear many mixed reviews on places. i know the morgan is supposed to be nice, but so pricey at over $140 p/nt.
Thank you!

Try looking at the Lime Tree hotel on Ebury St. in Belgravia. Don't think it will be under $100 but pleasant, clean, well located near Victoria Station & nice wine bar next door.

There's also a Holiday Inn that people have mentioned near there that sounds good.

If you don't mind staying in a big hotel, you might consider bidding on Priceline. People seem to be getting decent 4* hotels for $70-89/nite. Had a quick look & the 4* hotels in Kensington & Mayfair/Soho all look good. If you've not done this before, go to biddingfortravel.com & read up. Good luck.

Here's a great place to look for possibilities:

London hotels are pricey, in general.

As long as you're shopping, here's a couple of more sites that will provide you with plenty to look over:

http://www.180096hotel.com/index.html

and...

http://www.1st-london-hotels.com/

I've used both of these and had no problems, but I've also never tried to make any changes after locking in. Pay attention to the booking rules (sometimes these are pre-pay deals, particularly in the case of the first site I've listed in this reply.)

Have fun and be sure to "Mind the Gap"

London is an expensive city but you already knew that.

If you expect to get the hotel room you've described for $100 or less you're going to have to do some more work. Scour the budget travel sights or (my choice) peruse the hotel discount sights and priceline. narrow your pick of neighborhoods and hotel choices and zero in on a discount rate closer to your date of departure.

Or. Up your price to $150 and you'll have no problem finding a place now or at the last minute. No criticism implied, but I think I've seen you post elsewhere as professionals (attorneys?). Skip the lattes at Starbucks between here and November and you'll more than make up the difference for a pricier accommodation.

It can be done! Cheers.

We stayed at the Arosfa Hotel in Bloomsbury last year. We got a double with bath down the hall for 50GBP. The room was very clean and the bed was fine. The hotel was basic, but great for the money. We were the only ones who used the bath down the hall. It is listed in the Let's Go budget books.

The most recent issue of Frommer's Budget Travel (July/August) lists several options for low cost lodging. They mainly include chain hotels, but many have great locations and even better value. I have stayed at the Travel Inn County Hall four times in the past three years and never ever been disappointed. It is right next to the London Eye, Waterloo Station and mere steps to the bridge to Westminster Abbey. My rooms have been spacious and comfortable with many nice amenities such as coffee and tea service (with packages or crackers and cookies) to an on-site bar, restaurant and newstand/souvenier shop. There are many shops just opposite at the Waterloo station for food, drink or necessities. Rooms do vary greatly in size, so ask to see one or two before you choose. Overall, this property is very clean and friendly and you can't beat it for value or location. Check out the reviews on the Rants and Raves page.

I did a search on Google... This webpage lists London hotels in the 2-star price range, but it also allows you to search anything from 1 to 5-star hotels.

Hmm...looks like the site I just posted will only book as far ahead as Sept, at the moment. You can probably find something elsewhere that better suits you. Sorry!

Cheska, We've also stayed at the Travel Inn County Hall and loved the location. But that runs 80-83 GBP per night which shoots the $100 budget. The other Travel Inns in London run 70-75 GBP which comes a little closer to the goal (depending on the value of the $!)

In Novemer I would think you'd do very well on Priceline. In May I got a 4* hotel, Berner's, in a fine location (just off Oxford Street), for $85 a night for 2 nights, and then $75 for a third night when I got nervier in my bidding.

It was a completeley nice hotel. I jsut wouldn't do Priceline in te hottest months of a year since you might get something without air conditioning.

Read the Biddingfortravel site first
and then do it!!!

Just my two cents' worth: though character is nice, where bargains are concerned I would put comfort ahead of character -- I like to find a nice big room with a big new bathroom in a well-located hotel at a discount price. For myself I prefer this to the risks of "character" (which to me are: not clean, bad service, sound problems, weird bahroom, ec.). I would expect to pay more for character plus quality.

My daughter(24) and I (53) stayed in a hotel in South Kensington for under $100 called the Park International Hotel. Small hallways but great rooms for London. Close to a small mall (2 blocks) and the tube stop was at this mall. Food store and restaurants all there! This was my second time to London and our first hotel was the Tavistock by the London Museum. This was not as good and not under $100. Hope this helps.
