Hotel Tiquetonne / Hotel du Monge - any info?

Message: Hi!
Planning a trip to Paris in September. Considering both Hotel Tiquetonne and Hotel du Monge. Have gotten a quote of 83 euro for du Monge, have not heard back from Tiquetonne yet. I'm a female traveling solo, and price is definitely a consideration. Any information / feedback / preferences about these hotels would be appreciated.
Thanks!
Marian

Tiquetonne is a 1-star, did you know?...
Someone posted about staying there just the past month or so.

Try the search box...

I think 83€ for a single is a teeny bit high...
Hotel St Jacques - single 52-80€

Hotel Flor Rivoli - single 55-65€

Hotel Sunny Mouffetard - single 62-64€

EUR83 could rather be a rate for a room with a double bed, either for 1 or 2 persons. That's what I had last August for EUR74. That's mid season rate. September is high season isn't it? EUR74 that I paid isn't not that low for a 2 star hotel but their strong point is having air-condition that does not happen often with 2 star hotels. September can still be hot and most of their rooms are facing the street (noise factor). The room and bathroom were typically small & plain but clean. Towles in the bathroom were surprisingly real thread-bare though.

kappa, what hotel are you referring to?

Marian, if you search here on the name
111op, you may find the posting on the Tiquetonne if you can't find it by name, the search function is quirky sometimes.

There are lots of good comments on it at www.tripadvisor.com

Hotel du Monge that Marian reserved for EUR83 and where I stayed for EUR74 last August.

Thank you for your suggestions, Travelnut: I will be checking those out today!
Yes, I did know that Tiquetonne was a 1 star, but it gets pretty good reviews in trip advisor, and the price is excellent... I tried to find the recent review by 111op, but couldn't - even with Elaine's help!
I do agree that 83 euros for du Monge seems like a lot, but it is high season, and once again, good reviews on trip advisor.
So... the gist of it is that I'm not particularly excited about either of the choices; looks like I'm going to have to keep working on it. I just emailed Hotel Les Degres De Notre Dame and Hotel Jeanne d'Arc to check for rates and availability, both of which have singles for under 70 posted on their websites, a happy medium between Tiquetonne an du Monge.
Any feed back on them?
Thanks for your help!
Marian
P.S. - Kappa - what did you think about the du Monge? Was it worth 83 euros?

Hi, Les Degres de Notre Dame has no elevator but maybe you know that already?

Thank you, Elaine!
I have pretty much decided on Les Degres de Notre Dame, assuming I can get a reservation, with possibly a few / half of my nights spent at Hotel Jeanne d'Arc.
Marian
P.S. Your Paris file is amazing!

83 euro is not a lot for a nice 2* hotel with AC in a popular central area of Paris during the peak hotel season, which is what Sept. is.

Hi Marian, I see that you've decided, but I wrote more about the Hotel Tiquetonne here:

http://www.fodors.com/forums/threads...p;tid=34553654

My blog really doesn't say much about the hotel beyond a pretty generic blurb, but the other thread will have more info. I liked the hotel, especially at that price.

Does Tiquetonne have e-mail? (You wrote that you didn't hear back.) Try calling them instead. They're a small hotel and I think that they probably still do most business by phone. If I call during regular hours and can't reach someone, it's been because the hotel is closed (and there'll be a recording to that effect).

Enjoy your stay in Paris!

By the way, Tiquetonne most probably doesn't have AC, but you should call them in case you're still interested.
