Hotel recommendations in Luzern and Murren
Hi,
My Husband and I will be spending 2 days each in Luzern and Murren the second week of June and are looking for hotel recommendations. We aren't on a tight budget but don't want to spend a fortune. In Luzern we prefer something with old charm over something with more modern features. Thanks!

When we were in Luzern we stayed at the Grand Hotel National. That was 3 years ago. We had a room that was very spacious with a wonderful view of the lake and the mountains in the distance. There was no A/C, but I don't think its usually necessary. They may have it by now in all rooms. It is old world elegant.

I can't give you any suggestions in Luzern, however, for Murren, I suggest the Hotel Silberhorn in Lauterbrunnen, www.silberhorn.com, telephone +41(0)33-856-22-10, they spead english, and is walking distance to the "funicular) that goes up the side of the mountain to Murren. You can walk down the valley to Lauterbrunnen after a day in Murren. My husband and I have stayed here several times, and go back whenever we can....we love it! Waterfall and all!! Good Luck

We always stay at the Hotel Alpenruh in Murren. It's the furthest hotel from the train station, but the closest to the Schilthorn cable station. All rooms have balconies with great views. Last I checked, doubles were going for 190 CHF per night including breakfast.

Good morning, Have not stayed in Murren have always used the SCHWEIZERHOF in Grindelwald, however on my nephews last trip into the BO they used the HOTEL ALPENBLOCK, it is two star with 14 rooms and they were very pleased with it (www.muerren.ch/alpenblick)..
In Luzern have used thw Hotel WILDEN MANN over the years and have been very satisified with it (www,wukdeb-mann.ch)
is four star with 50 rooms, also the DES BALANCES located on the river in old town is a three star with 60 rooms

Does anyone know approximately how long it takes to get from Murren to Interlaken? We are catching a 9:30 am train from Interlaken to Geneva our last day there and ease of access to the station may be our deciding factor if it takes a significant time to get from one to the other. Thanks! Still trying to decide on Lucerne. It seems like the Old Town are is the place to be, no?

It's been a few years, but we really enjoyed staying at Chalet Fontana in Murren. http://www.muerren.ch/fontana/fontanae.htm
Denise is a wonderful host and great resource for information on hiking and other activities in the area.

I agree with Bob about the Des Alpes in Luzern, if 3*** is OO with you. The view from our room looked like this:

If for some reason you end up in Grindelwald instead of Murren, I can tell you we enjoyed the Hotel Gletschergarten. The view from its front porch looks like this:
