Grindelwald/Muerren Lodging

Any favorite lodging suggestions for under $250 per night?

I'd prefer a very nice chalet style with a view (no chain hotels).

Thanks!

Hi krissykris,

I hope you get some good suggestions soon for Mürren & Grindelwald. If you would also consider Wengen, you might like the Hotel Alpenrose (www.alpenrose.ch), where I've stayed twice.

BTW, don't think there are any chain hotels in these towns. Grindelwald does have a hotel that's part of the Romantik group, but I don't think of that as a "chain" type hotel.

Anyway, good luck!

If you chose Grindlewald as your home-base, you might like the Gletchergarten hoten up the far end of the street near the church.

I stayed there in the summer of 2000. The couple and family that run the place were really nice people. The meals were superb!!! Oh and BTW, they have balcony rooms with a pretty nice view of the mountains. The view I had was not of the Eiger, but the mountains were in great view.

As I recall the rate I got was good bang for the buck considering the location of the hotel, the meals and the friendly service.

I got the feeling that many of the hotel guest were also in this area to enjoy the hiking and outdoor activities. There was an international composition in the guest lists, but everyone was friendly. I think you should look into this hotel if just to give a good look and determine later if it is what you might be looking for in terms of a hotel in the Grindlewald area.

Whe are you planning to go to Switzerland? Many of the hotels in Grindelwald, Muerren and Wengen are on hiatus in April, May and October. We ran into that problem trying to book four nights in early Oct. We do have reservations now at Hotel Eiger in Grindelwald.

I responded on your other thread, but I'll repeat here.

I believe Hotel Cabana in Grindelwald fits your requirements nicely. It's a bit out of the village with wonderful views.

Our experience at the Gletschergarten in Grindelwald was very similar to sunstar's. We had a great time there.

Having said that, I believe the determining factor should be whether you have a car with you. If so, stay in Grindelwald. If not, stay in Wengen or Muerren.

Kissykris,

I stayed in Wengen rather than Grindelwald or Murren (but visited both). I preferred Wengen and in particular the Hotel Eiger which was a lovely Chalet style hotel in the centre of the town (sorry I have a new computer which is Vista rather than XP and don't know as yet how to paste an URL).

However, highly recommended
