Hotel near Gatwick that isnt expensive

I will be visiting London next month on business at a company whose offices are near Gatwick. Usually, I stay at one of the Gatwick hotels, either the Hilton or the Meridan but these hotels are rather expensive (about $200/night). Does anyone know of a more reasonably priced hotel near Gatwick or maybe just a few train stops away? I'd like to avoid the long commute from central London. I do not plan to rent a car. Thanks in advance.

A couple of years ago we stayed at the Travelodge. It is not fancy, but meets the requirement for inexpensive and near the airport. We found it on the Internet.

Good question! I'm waiting for responses. On a recent trip, I was looking for a budget hotel for an early LGW flight. No luck. So I stayed in central London. The first train to LGW is 4:30 or 4:45 (express) and the first local is 5:02 a.m. I took the 5:02 and set my alarm clock so that I wouldn't miss the Gatwick Airport train station. I got a relaxing few minutes of sleep.

Ibis has a hotel at Gatwick, they are rather utilitarian in decor but are considered inexpensive (not in the Hilton league by any means). I believe there is also a Travel Inn nearby as well as Travelodge.

Ther are many B&B,guest houses near Getwick. Last November I stayed one(less than 5 minutes drive) for 45 pounds per night with breakfast and free transportation to/from airport. If you would checkmoothhound.co.uk, there are some good deals.

This past Dec. I booked a room at Le Meridien (for one night) on Lastminute.com for 70GBP. We did have problems on arrival with this room rate but after persisting & presenting the written confirmation from lastminute, they honored the rate. Bottom line, check around for better rates on different websites. Try ebookers.com

There's a Holiday Inn a few miles away that has van service to/from LGW. Our room was rather basic, but it served the purpose, and the Eng. breakfast was nice.

The Renaissance Gatwick (Marriott property) has a 2-week advance purchase rate of 50 pounds. The rate is non-refundable.
