I only have positive to say about Hotel Residence Monge. We stayed there for eight days last year and are returning for eleven days this year.
Be aware that it is small and the bathroom smaller... however we don't spend a lot of time there.
It is clean, situated well in the Latin Quarter between two Metro stops. It is only steps from Mouffetard with a great market and some memorable restaurants and cafes.
Julie, the owner, is a gem. She speaks English will help you in any way (see my food reports for a couple of her restaurant suggestions).
We like room 25 - corner room with (tiny) balcony on the street side. The double windows effectively insulate you from the street noise (at least they did for us).
The hotel backs of Arenes Luttece - of historical significance and a super place for a picnic and people watching. A cafe of the same name (Arenes Cafe)is across Monge and an easy place for breakfast (coffee and a croissant).
I think if you are realistic (don't expect the Holiday Inn and remember what you are paying) you will love it.
Email if I can be of further help.
