Hotel - Latin QT for family

We have a room booked at Grandes Ecoles, but are rethinking it. Any other recommendations for a nice hotel in the latin quarter that can accomodate 2 adults and two younger kids?

Not sure if they have rooms for 4 people, but worth a shot. The hotel is Hotel de L'Esperance, and it is just a block away from Rue Mouffetard. It is very decently priced. It's a nice, clean hotel that my family enjoys staying at whenever they're in Paris. www.hoteldelesperance.fr

Consider an apartment instead. My relatives rented a two bedroom with sofabed in the living room in Montparnasse for less than they would have spent on a hotel room. The apt. also came with a small washer/dryer and a kitchen. They rented privately via www.yourparishome.com

Also try the excelsior in the 5th. It is between the Luxembourg and St. Michelle RER stops. I know that they have Quads. And a lift.

We LOVE the neighborhood and know it well. Our first introduction to it was the Hotel des Grande Ecoles where we stayed for years before we bought a place of our own. I can't think of a nicer place to stay! But an alternative might be the Hotel des Arenes on rue Monge.

Maybe you should say WHY you are rethinking it? because of room size? cost? locale?

Maybe because the Grands Ecoles has no a/c and you are going in summertime and want a/c??

You can't really say an apartment is less than a hotel. Some apts may work out to be less than an expensive hotel, while other apts are much more expensive than a moderate hotel. It all "depends".

I agree travelnut. My relatives were fortunate to stay for 11 days so their apt. rental cost was pretty reasonable. I believe it was approximately 1,350 euro with a small discount and they had two bedrooms, living room with sofabed, small washer/dryer, and a kitchen. The location was a very good area too, Ave. Rene Coty in Montparnasse.

francophile03 – I tend to agree with your view, we rent an apartment in the Latin Q. each time we go, as we will for this September. We have found our favorite and return every time we go. Our price is around $650 for the week (depending on the exchange rate), which is much better than the hotel prices. It is a GREAT location and the owners are so helpful. I also like the fact that we are not using a hotel and running into other Americans, we get to live like the locals do for a short time! : )

I imagine good apts cost more as you move inward... I like the 'Rene Coty' area, more 'Denfert Rochereau' than 'Montparnasse' - quite laid back. Not that far from the action, really...

Thanks. I sound like a stupid ad for that apt. rental website, sorry. But since my cousin and her family (first time trip to Paris too) used it and had a good experience, I am impressed. The apt. owner was easy to deal with too. She accepted a credit card number to hold the deposit and she credited their account on their departure day. I find that the cost is the best part working out to about 100+ euro daily considering the cost of hotel rooms now.
