hotel in Rome and Florence

Honeymoon in October. We are going to start in Rome, go onto Florence and off to Venice. We have 2 weeks...
Looking for a nice hotel in Rome. We will be staying in luxury in Venice but don't want anything that nice in Rome. However, I want a lobby/someplace to sit with coffee or wine, patio or terrace, and a restaurant. I have looked at a ton of budget (3 stars) and haven't found anything that has caught my eye. We don't mind spending a couple hundred a night but not that much more. Suggestions would be great!

Looking for someplace nice in Florence too!

For Rome, check out ALBERGO DEL SENATO, a very popular 3-star just across a tiny street from the Pantheon. It has a roof terrace/bar overlooking the rotunda, and has gotten incredibly good reviews here on the forum and on tripadvisor.com. I know the area because we stayed around the corner from there last year, and it is very central to all the main tourist atractions ( Trevi Fountain, Colosseum, etc.)

In Florence, I highly recommend (especially since it's your honeymoon!) the incomparable HOTEL LUNGARNO on the banks of the Arno River. Yes, it's pricey ( two years ago it ran about $400/night) but it's worth every penny. The rooms with terraces overlooking the river are heavenly, and the service, breakfast, outside bar, and location are
outstanding.

In Rome, look at Hotel Columbus. It is right down the street from the Vatican and in a building that used to house visiting Cardinals during 16 and 1700s. It has a bar and restaurant and a great breakfast room.

Also, look at Hotel Santa Maria. It is located in Trastevere, my favorite neighborhood in Rome.

there is a hotel calle onefourtyseven...dont' have the details but you can find it for sure. stayed there last summer and it was just perfect. they have a gorgeous cocktail lounge on the roof and a cafe in the center garden. it was in a fatastic location (next to the old jewish ghetto) and close to lots of great piazza's. also, you may decide to knock out one of those destinations. rome, itself, can take 2 weeks. you could never stop learning there. i might knock out florence and save it for another trip (it's not to be missed either, just do it when you can then check out tuscany too).
