We were in Munich last week, planning on staying at the Hotel Acanthus, which had pretty good reviews. We stayed one night --- hated the area, hated the claustrophobic room, and the staff was aloof and unhelpful. We switched to the Uhland Hotel, with it's spacious, light-filled rooms, and it's personable and friendly staff. No contest.

Getting a hotel for this year's O'Fest?
We alway make our resrvations one year in advance, as we're checking out.
IBIS NORD for us, across the street from the airport bus.

Check out this link for sites to see in Munich:

http://www.travellingbazaar.com/munich%201.html

If u have the time, take the BOB train from the main station down to Tegernsee (lake set amoungst the mountains) or Bad Toelz:

http://www.travellingbazaar.com/bad%20toelz%201.html

Both train journeys take about one hour and cheap wknd/day tickets are available for groups upto 5 people.
