Hotel St Andre des Artes got a rousing 2-thumbs-up from another board I posted on, nobody had anything negative to say about it and all had enjoyed their stay there! It's been described as funky, shabby-chic, friendly, appealing to 20-somethings, and right smack in the middle of the Latin Quarter (location location location.) The hotel has been very gracious and prompt about answering my e-mail inquiries so I made a reservation for the girls there. Twin room with private bath for 85E a night.
THANKS for all the input.

I have read that Hotel Saint Andre des Arts is more shabby than shabby-chic. Note that there is no elevator also if that is important considering your daughter's friend is pregnant. No a/c is provided also.
I think the aforementioned hotels are much better choices and are located in the same area, many with a/c as well.

These are the comments from www.paris.org:
What others have said about this hotel:
My wife and I stayed here four nights recently. The management was doing some remodeling, so things were a bit torn up. Our room needed updating but it was clean and very quiet. The kindness and helpfulness of the staff, along with the wonderful location of the hotel, made up for any inadequacies we encountered.
We've stayed there twice in the last five years, once during the construction. For the price, you can't beat the location and relative charm. The street side has great, timbered rooms with tall windows -- but take earplugs -- there's a disco across the street.
What a find. This little jewel is a bargain, easily reached by the RER and Metro. The hotel is not much to write about, but why waste time within four walls when Paris is out your door? The pleasant staff added to the experience. Great location and easy to find too.
I thoroughly enjoyed my 3-night stay at the Hotel St. Andre des Arts. It is a delightfully charming hotel in a great location. I will definitely stay there again whenever I return to Paris.
A quite simple hotel, old furniture and squeeling floors. Excellent location but not to be recommended in summer when you want to sleep while the window is opened. It is loud until late in the night. Good for low demands, but therefore you pay a high price.
