Hotel Atel Pointe Rivoli?
I just found this hotel -- Atel Pointe Rivoli. Has anyone stayed there? I searched this forum and no one has said anything about it. There are 2 reviews on tripadvisor saying the rooms there are very small but the location is good. Are the rooms any smaller than an average 2 star in Paris? Someone mentioned 8x20 ft.
It's part of the Atel chain--any opinions? Never heard of this chain before.
thanks!

Hi JC,
I haven't stayed in this hotel. However, I know the area and like it very much, it has some very good museums, charming buildings, many restaurants and cafes. I particularly like the less visited, lower Marais area closer to the Seine, a short walk from your hotel.
Rue St. Antoine is large and might be noisy at night, I would try to find out if the hotel has double glazing. I know of another 2-star that is recommended in the area which does have double glazing, and that's the Sevigné. It's in the same price category as the Pointe Rivoli.

About Atel: Last January I made a reservation on their website for one of their hotels. A week later I e-mailed the hotel to check whether it had gotten my reservation (following the good advice of some memebers of this board). It hadn't. I e-mailed Atel about it and received no reply. I then decided to cancel my reservation, I just didn't want this going back and forth between hotel and Atel and found another hotel that had a website of its own and a booking page where I could easily make a reservation. So I don't know, maybe it was just my experience, but from now on I'll try to book directly with the hotel.
Lastly, if you end up staying there or just happen to pass by, check the Chocolats de Bayonne on rue Saint Antoine, near the church, across the street from St. Paul Métro station. They have some great stuff.

we stayed at hotel Pointe Rivoli for only $60 night last march, 6 floors, tiny staircase was only drawback since we were in the one 6th floor room!, very clean, nice staff, we were pleased. Brkfast was $6 more I think. Excellent Location, right by metro stop and easy to walk to everything!

Thanks all for your answers here.
Also, what is the star rating of this hotel? Many booking websites say it's 2 stars, but Orbitz says it's 3 stars. And Rick Steve's book says it's only 1 star! One star must be quite terrible in Paris? Thanks.

1* is not terrible in Paris. Or, one needs to define terrible. If terrible is a certain lack of "amenities", mini-bars, TV, telephones, elevators, well then... that indeed would be TERRIBLE to some, I guess.
Otherwise I have stayed in a clean, comfortable, well run, central, yet historic building (which is exactly why I wanted to stay there!). It had two comfortable double beds and a large ensuite bath...for my first night in Paris, I didn't need anything else.
The St. Andre Des Arts in the 5th...

Matter of opinion as to terrible -- it is the lowest rating of hotel, so depends what you want. I'm sure some 1* hotels are terrible, just being in Paris doesn't guarantee a hotel isn't terrible.
The Paris Tourist Office says it has asked to be classified/inspected and doesn't have a rating -- Atel says a 2* which could be what they expect or that they have more recent information posted than the tourist office.
It looks okay for a 2* hotel, and the Atel chain owns a lot of hotels in Paris, some quite popular and independent (ie, Agora, Abbatial St Germain, Quai du Voltaire, Pantheon), some are particular "chains" (ie, Jardin de Paris and Kyriad). It's definitely respectable and they wouldn't have taken it on if it were an embarrassment or a dump (or they would renovate, perhaps they have).
8x20 is a weird size room, in any case, I wonder if that was a mistake.
