We are going to paris mid october for 4 nights...need 2 connecting rooms. The Hilton Arc de Triomphe has a family room., reasonably priced.... any thoughts on hotel/location?

Paris has a very good transportation system, so you can get to a lot of places from the Hilton.

You will be about 1/2 km from the Parc Monceau and the Jacquemart-Andre Museum, and about 20 min walk from the Arc and the Place Concorde.

What draws you to the Hilton other than price?

Hi, welcome to Fodors. Lots of people from America like to stay in American hotels and if it makes people in the family feel comfortable then why not go with it. But my question back to you is why go to France and stay in America? Now the position is certainly not where I would want to stay, it is very "where the consultants and wealthy people stay", again if that makes the family ok, then ok but why not stay down near (and I'm googling randomly here but thinking as I type) down by Notre Dame in the 5th.

So it really is up to what your party wants

It's not a location I would ever consider staying in...or the kind of hotel I would ever stay in in France, but that's MY preference, not yours. It's fine. You can get anywhere in Paris easily on public transportation, so that's not a consideration, really. But do keep in mind that plenty of Parisian hotels, not just American chains, have connecting rooms, so if you do want some French charm, you can easily find it.

Unless you are using Hilton points, I wouldn't stay there myself. And even then I'd have 2nd thoughts.

I've stayed there twice using Hilton points because it had two double/queen beds in the room. Also, I had access to the exec lounge (with free breakfast, hors d'oeuvres, desserts, drinks etc). The lounge has a very cute breakfast terrace that looks over a quiet street and it was very relaxing to sit there. There is a beautiful garden in the inner courtyard as well. Go have a peek at the hotel bathroom down the lobby stairs - beautiful!

You don't say how old your kids are - young, there is Parc Monceau just down the street. Older, it is around the corner from the Arc de Triomphe.

Negatives include the fact that it is a 10 minute walk to the Metro, and it is a secondary stop so you are always changing lines. You can walk to Notre Dame etc, but you have to like walking. So, you will definitely find more convenient places to stay in Paris. On points, it was fabulous.

I think the location is a little inconvenient but manageable, of course. It's not really that near the Arc de Triomphe which could be a good or bad thing.

What possible difference does it make if it is owned by some American hotel company or not. The staff is not going to be Americans and the hotel itself has more style (Art Deco furnishings) than many French chain hotels and many French hotels are not charming. The idea that staying near Notre Dame, as suggsted, is some superior experience because Hilton is currently an American company is laughable to me.

I'll be staying at this Hilton on points this spring. There are two very long threads on it if you look on Flyertalk. Having read those, poutine's post is exactly what I expect the experience to be. (My husband and I will also have lounge access.)
