hiking in Belaggio/Lake Como

We will be in Belaggio in a couple of weeks and keep reading about the "great hikes" in the area. Does anyone have any suggestions on hiking around Belaggio and Lake Como?

Thanks!

Hiking, No! Eating, YES!!!!

Do go to our favorite, little restaurant in Bellagio. We go there each of the four times we've visited. It's half-way up the steps on the left side. Called Ristorante Bilacus. If you're looking for a nice, little hotel, try the Hotel Florence!!

Glasser,

Do we need reservations for that restaurant?

We are not hikers but I have a Kompass hiking guide for the area. Most of the hiking is on the east and west shores of the lake (Bellagio is in the middle). If you are an advanced hiker than you might look at the CAI (Club Alpini Italia or something similar) website. They operate numerous alpine rifuges in the the area for the assistance of hikers.

So, it ranges from 'easy' to'advanced'.

Let us know how we can help.

I found it! The hike that I think I keep reading about is from Menaggio to Monte Grona. Has anyone made that hike? I am curious as to how difficult it is (and by difficult I really mean scary...any spots you can fall off of?). We don't mind strenous hikes, but I'm not one for cliffs.

The sentiero del viandante runs the east side of the lake (Lecco to Colico). Someone that walked it put up a pretty good website.

I have a book 'Italian Lakes, car tours and waks', davd robertson & sarah stewart. I think it was published in England. It has a walk in the Grandola ed Uniti area (from Menaggio), they rate it 'easy'. There is a walk from Pigra near Argegno, rated 'easy-moderate'. Another from Pigra, rated 'strenous'. Menaggio to Griante rated 'moderate'.
