Lake Como - July, staying 19 Lezzeno, Lombardia - things to do?
We are a group of 8, ages 21 to 58 traveling to Lake Como in July. We will be there two and a half days. I have read quite a bit on this site and it seems we should take a boat ride on the lake, visit Bellagio & Varenna villas since they are closest to us. We are foodies, wine lovers and enjoy outdoor activities (hiking, kayaking). We like to wander around quaint towns. The guys would like to smoke cigars while the girls visit local shops. I know it is a busy time of year there and being such a big group we need to book some things in advance...
What are your top "must dos" while in this area with limited time? Looking for activities, restaurant recommendations, etc.

There are no must do's. All depends on your interests. You may board a Como - Varenna boat, three of them stop at Lezzeno.
Mountain hiking is good in the area, on both sides of the Lake.
You may also cross the Lake to Arcegno and go up into the mountains from there
For botanical gardens, you may go to Villa Olmo or Villa Carlotta.
For stunning mountain views, take a bus to Como, a train to Capolago and the famous cog wheel train to Monte Generoso. Or hike to this peak from a bus station in the mountains like Lanzo, Casasco, San Fedele or Scudellate.

We spent a few days on Lake Como last fall. The first of our 2-part trip report of northern lakes and cities includes our time on Lake Como. Although we stayed in Varenna, we did visit "quaint towns", did some hiking, visited local shops, villas, gardens and even found one of our favorite delis anywhere (Bellagio).

The part of Italy to which you are traveling is not a top destination for food or wine, and this is further compromised by mass tourism. For 2.5 days, you will barely be there long enough to get your bearings and find your way to the most famous sights you have mentioned. If people want to smoke cigars, they should bring them.
