HELP! Rental car need in Rouen for pick up on a weekend.

I am striking out on trying to find a rental car company in Rouen that permits a weekend pick up for some reason. I'd like to pick the car up at or near the train station if possible. Any help (links, etc.) w/ this is appreciated. thanks.

In the UK, it is certainly true that the only rental agencies open between noon on Saturday and opening time Monday are at major airports and in central London; the same situation may well be true in France.

Hi Christina,
What I want to do is pick up a car in Rouen and drop it in Luxembourg, if possible. The Rentacar website seems to only allow for a pick and and return at the same location. Any other options?

hi, CCH, I suppose you can take the train or fly ---

I'm no car rental expert, just looked some info up in the phonebook before, however I think it would be helpful if you said why you are having trouble and what companies you've tried because I'm a little perplexed by this ... I went to the most obvious car rental company out of curiosity when they were open (Avis) and they are open both Sat. and Sunday in Rouen and have a luxembourg office...
so then I went to the 2nd most obvious, Hertz, and they gave me a quote for renting in Rouen, dropoff in Luxembourg, pickup on Saturday in Rouen, dropoff 5 days later in Lux.

so I am wondering why you are having troubled?

Hi Christina,
I did a web search (rental cars+Rouen)and got a few general links to rental car agancies, etc. When I would enter in my pick up and drop off dates, I'd get a response indicating that I should chose different dates, etc. I e-mailed the Rouen tourist authority, etc. and have yet to get a reply. If I rented in Paris and drove to Normandy-which is my intention-would that be the best way to go?

As I said, I got a quote from Hertz easily, but it was for a hypothetical date of course -- just showed you can do it on Sat. So it sounds like your problem may be there are no cars available on the dates you picked, perhaps, not that they are not open. I just used www.hertz.fr and www.avis.fr.

I'm not sure on your route, it would depend on why you want a car. I certainly wouldn't rent a car to drive to Rouen when you can take the train in an hour or so for very little. Also, Rouen isn't the direction of Luxembourg from Paris, so I guess your plan is only because you can't get a car rental in Rouen? If not and you must have one between there and Luxembourg, I guess that's ok but I don't drive around Paris.

cch1: Instead of searching the web for rental cars + Rouen, which is likely to bring up primarily French rental agencies which are less likely to be open on weekends, go directly to the websites of AutoEurope (I already checked - they have two affiliate offices in Rouen that are open Saturdays, none Sundays) or Hertz or Avis of Budget or other American outfits. You should always rent your car from the USA (assuming that's where you're coming from) anyway, as it's much cheaper. AutoEurope did not appear to have a drop-off charge in Luxembourg, which is surprising.

Thanks again Christina and StCirq,
I've been messing around w/ my routes and it makes more sense to go to Caen vs. Rouen as I will begin my drive at Mont St Michel, then procede to the Normandy D-Day beaches, then drive to Bruges, then to Ghent and eventually to Luxembourg. I had originally chosen Rouen because it seemed the best "hub" city to begin from. Does anyone have any links that I could use to calculate toll costs for France?
