On my trip to Normandy a few years ago, I picked up car in Rouen (which is also an interesting town to visit, if you have the time). Bayeux seems to be the most popular town for a base to visit the beaches, especially if you don't have a car. It's also pretty, has a wonderful cathedral and the fabulous Bayeux Tapistry. I stayed in a small village near Arromanches at a place called Ferme de la Raconniere, as I wanted to be in the countryside - loved it. Wouldn't do without a car, though. The Beaches will definitely be cold in December - I was cold in May! But I'm from South Florida.

Yes, near Censier Daubenton. And I am very excited because we finalized everything today!
Now to plan the Normandy part of things. Bummer--battlebus is booked so we'll have to use another tour company.

Bummer about battlebus being booked.
Here is the TripAdvisor list of "Things to Do" in Bayeux which offers reviews of several other tour companies.
