If you don't get the information you seek here try the Tinos forum on tripadvisor.

Yes I've been there. It was on a holiday where we were island hopping. I remember it for the dovecotes and the church which dominated the port and life on the island.
It was different because it was a place of pilgrimage and tourism ( or international tourism) was not it was about.
I think that we were there two nights and then we moved on.
I would not make it my only destination but as one stop it was an interesting contrast.

It would make an interesting day trip from Mykonos: sort of a sinners & saints contrast. ;-)

Tinos is a beautiful island, just relatively undiscovered by international tourism.

While it is known in Greece for it's church, that makes the island an equivalent of Lourdes especially on 15/8, Tinos is a mainly catholic island with beautiful villages.

It is famous for it's pigeon towers, here is a link to some pics : http://tinyurl.com/jwb5x8n

I was there for just 2 days, on a short trip from Mykonos, ages ago and totally loved the island.

I've not yet been to Greece but am planning a trip for May 2015. Needing a respite fro guide books I borrowed a copy of Lawrence Durrell's 1978 book, The Greek Islands from the NYPL. And a most idiosyncratic book it is, replete with history, mythology and closely observed descriptions.

I looked in it to see if he had a pithy description of Tinos, but he devotes pages to it. I think you would like this book very much, though I can't vouch for its utility as a guide.

FRiend of mine has a house there. Her husband was a v. well-known Jeweler in Mykonos but as they grew older, didn't want the constant nightlife, so he "commuted." According to her, lovely countryside but the downside is, bus schedule very minimal, mainly to get workers to work early in AM and home at dinner … so if u wanted to see beyond the port town, would have to rent a car.
