Golden Circle Tour

My wife and I will be staying in Reyjavik on May 1 and would like to do a Golden Circle Tour.
Can anyone suggest a good tour company to book for this.

We were in Iceland this past October for 8 days and had a private guide from GTI ( Gateway to Iceland ) He was very good, so have a look as I believe they also do small group tours.

We were very happy with our Iceland Horizon tour. The 15-passenger mini-bus was very comfortable and the driver/guide was excellent. http://icelandhorizon.is/the-golden-circle/

Another vote for a small tour!

We took the Golden Circle and Magical Nights tour with Icelandic Mountain Guides. It's an 11-hour tour with a small group of 8-10 people.

Posted pictures and our itinerary in my Iceland trip blog:

Enjoy your trip!

We used Grayline a year ago October for this. I don't know if it was the time or year or just luck, but we were on a large bus but there were only maybe 15 or so people total. Our guide was very good and we have no complaints at all.

Can you drive the Circle Tour route yourself without a 4 x4-----this would be in May.

Abbyo - you can easily drive there yourselves and in an ordinary car. The roads to and round the Golden Circle are fine for normal cars - and the terms of your car hire won't let you go off road anyway. it's an easy drive from Reykjavik and back in a day, and by May you will have plenty of light in the evening so you won't need to rush.

A Annhig said, the road for the Golden Circle is always cleaned for tourists circulating all day, all year round. There is no need to go for a 4x4 to do this excursion.

My husband and I rented a car in October and did the Golden Circle ourselves. We did not need a 4x4. We much preferred this way. It was at our own pace. make some great side stops, hiked to hot springs. It was a great day adventure

Cnugent, just curious which/where hotsprings you hiked to? How long of a hike? Thanks.

May is a great time to visit and drive yourself. Lots of daylight hours and little chance of inclement weather. I found driving in Iceland to be pretty stress free and it's easy to do a Golden Circle tour on your own.
