Getting from Positano to Ravello

Can anyone give me advice on the best way to get from Positano to Ravello? We are taking a cooking course that starts at 10:30 am, so should we take ferry and bus? Just bus? Private car?

Thanks

Hi J,

When are you going? I would just take the bus, BUT plan plenty of extra time! The SITA buses are notorious for not showing up or running very, very late. Once in Amalfi, you should take a taxi up to Ravello. The small bus up to Ravello is horribly crowded.

Have fun in your class!

Buon viaggio!

I agree...the bus from Amalfi to Ravello is a crap shoot when it is busy. There were about 75 people waiting for the bus when it came and oh the horror!! I felt sorry for the locals who count on the bus for transportation as the tourists were quite pushy and rude.

Think my boyfriend and I are taking the same cooking class! www.mammaagata.com
And really looking forward to it (and the lunch that follows.)

When are you going?

We're staying just outside Ravello, so getting there isn't an issue.

Whoever gets back first should post a report. Although there are nothing but raves on tripadvisor.

In early June last year we took a bus about mid-morning from Amalfi to Ravello. The bus filled up but it wasn't unpleasant. I would plan to use the bus but consider a taxi for my backup plan. I would allow plenty of time to get there by bus for the reasons already cited.

Thanks for all your replies.
I definitely think we should take a cab once we get to Amalfi, but what is the best way to get to Amalfi from Positano? It sounds like the buses are not reliable to get us there on time. Has anyone taken the ferries from Positano to Amalfi?
Lesli, it is the same course. We are taking the course on May 12th. When are you?

J,

Taking the boat down to Amalfi is a beautiful ride. Just be sure to find out the schedule ahead of time!

I've taken the hydrofoil from Positano to Amalfi. Very quick and scenic; it is the best way to go. I agree that a taxi is your most reliable transport up to Ravello from Amalfi but be prepared to pay at least 30 Euros each way.

JP, you're 2 weeks ahead of us. There are two other people taking the class the same day we are; too bad it's not you!

Should be a fun experience and a great memory. We'll compare notes when I return!
