Getting desperate...POSITANO hotels

Okay, I have accepted the fact that I won't get into La Fenice or many of my other choices in Positano, but I PLEAD with you to share your experience, advice, websites, etc. for other great places to stay in Positano that may be available in September, 2000. Although I'd love to stay at La Sirineuse or other such luxury properties, I really need something for the more budget minded. Please help! Everything I seem to check that sounds like "my kind of place" is booked...

Hi Daniel,

Have you tried Villa Rosa (across the street from Le Sirenuse?). They still had a double room available a couple of weeks ago - it sounded great, although we decided to stay in Ravello.

A website with a number of hotels in Positano is www.starnet.it/positano.

Good luck!

Jordanna

Try a place called Conca d'oro. Don't know the number, but it is a good budget choice. You could also stay in Praiano, the next town up--less expensive alternatives there, such as Margareta.

Have you tried Casa Albertina? I stayed there last year, and can give details if you need, just drop a note to my email.

Thanks all. And, yes, I tried Casa Albertina...booked solid. Sigh. Will keep trying. Any more suggestions welcome. Would love a place with views/balcony.

Daniel,Try the little Murat (email [email protected]) It has a web site somewhere. Don't have firsthand knowledge but found it on the Internet and it looked good. Also, I believe that the restaurant, Buca di Bacco is a hotel as well, although we didn't notice that when we ate there.

I just booked 2 nights at Villa Maria Luisa for 100,000 lira per night. It was recommended by Margo Classe in her book re budget hotels.

Thank you all so much for you help. I just booked Villa Rosa (WHEW!), and found them to be most helpful in charming in responding to my desperate plea. Will let you know the outcome, but it sounds wonderful!

Daniel:

I stayed at the Villa Rosa last spring; actually it was during this time of April that I was in Positano. I was very pleased with the accommadations - not a high end spot like Le Sirenuse, just across the street, but a good value for the price.
Let us know how it worked out for you when you return.

Please consider Covo dei Saraceni in Positano. It is much more moderately priced that La Sirineuse, but better located. You will not find the ultimate in luxury, but it is quite nice and the view is incredible. There is a pool overlooking the water, the boats and the small beach below. It is right on the water at the cove. If you walk around the path to the other side, you will find another quiet yet charming cove lined with little places to eat. I'm surprised no one has mentioned this hotel. It is truly a gem and you can stay two nights here for the price of one at La Sirineuse. Please look into it and let me know what you decide. I can't recommend this place enough. The one drawback is you will have to hire a porter to bring your bags from the parking lot, but the trade-off is well worth it.

Hi dgg, this thread by Daniel was written 4/ll/2000. But your hotel suggestion will be good for anyone interested in staying in Positano I would imagine.

Loveitaly, nothing like a day late and a dollar short! I just got a new macbook and haven't changed out of my bathrobe in days! Just kidding...not really! I don't know how I got on this thread. I logged onto Fodors to get info on Crete. I guess I got carried away! I love Italy too!
