What about this?

At the top of the stairway to the famous restaurant Le Train Bleu. Or if you don't want to drag your luggage up there, at the foot of it (careful there are two sides.)

I used Gare de Lyon this weekend and thought about checking the track numbers. This surely will not help OP any more, just for furtur record :
Some infos I gave above were not correct.
1. The tracks in the main hall are in alphabets BUT start with A from far left and the last is N. on far right , with your back to the main exit. So basically there are 14 tracks in the main hall.
2. Almost next to the left of track A, are addtional tracks with numbers. I honestly don't remember which number is the first one. Not 1-digit number. In any case, there are only about 5 to 7 tracks in this addtional part. I took my TGV back to Geneva on the last track that was No.23.

I think a famous restaurant or info desk or something like that is a much better idea than trying to guess track numbers. Besides, some tracks can be really far apart in certain stations, so you could have to go to the entire opposite side of a station by that method, and maybe it would be a total waste of time.
I agree the Train Bleu restaurant is a good idea for that station.
