Train stations have track numbers. Pick a number and agree to meet at the entrance to Track (Voie) No. ________.

What about this?

At the top of the stairway to the famous restaurant Le Train Bleu. Or if you don't want to drag your luggage up there, at the foot of it (careful there are two sides.)

Yes, I thought about that too. Main ones actually are alphabets (A, B, C ..) and not numbers.

I know Gare du Nord has numbers. Anybody know about Lyon?

But it makes no difference really. Agree to meet at Voie No 1 if it is numbers or Voie A if it is letters.

I know gare de lyon, that's why I said above. They have A to Z and then on the far left side starts 2-digit numbers (from 10 to 20 or 22 and there is no 1 - 9, I think). The ones close to the main entrance is A - Z.

Sounds like Track A would be a good bet.

Can someone please specify? there are voies a-z in gare de lyon (meaning there are TWENTY SIX???)
i find this a bit strange.

however, if lane A is the safest one, i will chose that as my meeting spot.

If you are meeting at GdL to take a train, I suggest you meet at the entrance to the platform your train departs from.

If one is meeting the other's train, then meet at the entrance to the platform the train arrives at.

I used Gare de Lyon this weekend and thought about checking the track numbers. This surely will not help OP any more, just for furtur record :

Some infos I gave above were not correct.

1. The tracks in the main hall are in alphabets BUT start with A from far left and the last is N. on far right , with your back to the main exit. So basically there are 14 tracks in the main hall.

2. Almost next to the left of track A, are addtional tracks with numbers. I honestly don't remember which number is the first one. Not 1-digit number. In any case, there are only about 5 to 7 tracks in this addtional part. I took my TGV back to Geneva on the last track that was No.23.

Good suggestion--steps of Train Bleu.

The café below the steps that leads to Train Bleu.

I think a famous restaurant or info desk or something like that is a much better idea than trying to guess track numbers. Besides, some tracks can be really far apart in certain stations, so you could have to go to the entire opposite side of a station by that method, and maybe it would be a total waste of time.
I agree the Train Bleu restaurant is a good idea for that station.
