Frommer *find hotel in Rouen

Frommer says this hotel is a find!! Central Rouen..much less money and has ac, wireless, etc. Breakfast...says great things about it.

My problem is I can' t find this hotel listed anywhere..not trip advisor, not via google. It just sounds great.
Do I take a chance? The Bonaparte was hard to find online too but at least was listed in trip advisor.

Hotel du Vieux Carre

Use the French Google (www.google.fr). Type in Hôtel du Vieux Carré Rouen. It comes right up - with Trip Advisor link about 4 lines down.

I don't think it makes any difference if you use the French google or English one, you get plenty of links if you type in "hotel du vieux carre" rouen

I can't see that any mention tripadvisor, which shouldn't need a link, you can find it if you go to tripadvisor, if it were on there. So it is "listed" in plenty of places, but maybe not a place with reviews. www.gaf.tm.fr has listings of many French hotels by city, if you just want information. Here is there Rouen page
http://www.gaf.tm.fr/fr/france/norma...time/rouen.php

There is no web site link for that hotel or photos, though, as for many. Just basic contact info.

Thanks so much. I had typed in the name of the hotel but didn't put Rouen on the end...

It sounds like a perfect place for us...and reasonable..we shall see.

This is the website. It may say "site under construction" but click through it and everything will come up. It looks very pretty.

Tell us afterwards how it was because if it's as nice as it looks, it's a tremendous bargain!

Putting in rouen just limits the links so the most appropriate are at the top, but you'd still get plenty of links without that. The important thing in long names is really to use the quotes to make sure you get links of that particular place name. I tried doing it without quotes, and can see that's what the tripadvisor mention is that showed up in StCirq's search -- just a different hotel whose name begins with "hotel du vieux" something, but it's not the same place and doesn't have carre in the name.

It's really the quotes that are important to narrow down stuff to what you really want, especially with common words such as in that name.

Congrats to dln for finding the link, it's as slow as molasses on my computer (I don't have high-speed) but has lots of photos.

Why thanks, Christina. I had an ulterior motive in searching for it--I'm gunning for another trip to France this fall, and have never ventured outside of metro Paris or Provence. This area looks so interesting to me.

I think we will love the place but I am amazed you found a website. It looks like it's not done yet. They have a restaurant there and breakfast too. It may be a slight walk to the sights but on my Rick Steves map I see a bakery ... a famous one fairly close. Of course I don't read maps well.

You are outstanding as an internet detective.
