I will be there for 1 hour and 45 minutes around 2200 hours in Oct., catching an overnight train to Venice. Is there a restaurant that will be open? Is it safe that time of night? I have never been into Germany. Thanks for any advice.

Has anyone on here ever been to the Frankfurt train station? Please help if you can.

The train station is quite large but also very safe. I can't say for sure or not if a restaurant will be open or not, but the station is located in the heart of the city. Take the escalators down into the mini shopping area where you might find a restuarant, or continue back up the other side and you pop out into down town Frankfurt.
The first 2 blocks are know for their "ladies of the night" but the area is safe and just another block or two will put you back into normal city atmosphere.
I'm sure someone at the station can point you in the right direction for a nearby restuarant. Should be no problem!

According to bahn.de, the website for the German railway system:

Can't speak in particular terms about safety, but in general most railway stations in Europe are safe. There are generally lots of people around, as well as police.

Hi Mikki - The train station is large and bustling. When we were there in the daytime there was a market set up inside and it was great browsing. But I have no idea what it will be like at 10 p.m. We had lunch there. Maybe you could 'google' it and see what you come up with. I would think you would have no trouble filling your time. Most likely there will be a cafe open. CJ

I suggest that you bring a sandwich with you, just in case.

Thanks everyone who responded. I went onto google and was able to find some more info. It looks like a big modern place with alot of eating choices.

Three years ago Frankfurt main station had no catering after 2130 beyond sandwich stalls.
I am afraid the Thomas Cook European Timetable shows no night train about 2200 from Frankfurt for Venice. Would you like to check ? You may be booked on the train at 2247 which reaches Milan at 0745. There you leave at 0805 and reach Venice Santa Lucia at 1106. Or you may be on the Dolomiten Express, Saturday mornings only, from Frankfurt Sud (not the main station) at 0019 to Venice Santa Lucia at 1243. The most convenient overnight connection is Frankfurt main station 1950, restaurant car train, Munich 2327 to 2339, Venice Santa Lucia 0715

The area between Frankfurt main station and the old city is subject to pickpockets at night.

I am booked on the train at 2247 which reaches Milan at 0745.

Frankfurt station is fine - and will still be very busy at that time of the evening. I've spent many "happy" hours waiting around in Frankfurt for connections, and you shouldn't have any problems. There are also good lockers in the station if you want to put your bags somewhere for a while (I always find cafes and restaurants are that little bit more friendly if you don't arrive with lots of luggage )

Yes #40313/301 with no restaurant car..definitely find something to eat or take with you in Frankfurt.
