Accommadation in Mainz: Is the area around train station still under constrction?

I have checked old posts about hotels in mainz, some mentioned there were many constructions near Mainz hbf, not quite comfortable. Has anyone been to Mainz recently? Is it still the same?

Thanks in advance for any info.

We were there in June. Took the train into Mainz from Frankfurt and then 2 weeks later left from Mainz on the train to Frankfurt for the return flight home.

There was not any construction in the HBF that we noticed. Are you asking about the surrounding streets and hotels? We walked along the Bahnhofstrasse to the Schillerplatz and didn't notice construction. Hope that answers your questions.

I haven't been there in 2 years, when there still was a good deal of building going on at the station... probably quiet now.

As a rule, the area around the Dom is a much nicer spot to stay than the station area - the old town is there, lots of pedestrians-only streets, good shopping and dining, nearer to the river and the city park. The Mainz Sud station is a bit more convenient to the Dom area than Mainz Hbf.

We stayed at the Mainz Hilton City Center, only a couple of blocks from the train station (5 min. walk). We used our points for a free room the night of arrival and the night before departure. Mainz is lovely with a wonderful pedestrian zone and river access, all easily walked. The Hilton was excellent!

We used Hyatt points for stay at Hyatt on the Rhine. Lots of activity on the river with walkers, cyclers, roller-bladers, and all the passing boats. Very pretty setting, and walking distance to old town area. We found some neat wine bars near the Dom. It has been about a year ago, so can't report on construction.
