It looks wonderful, but I haven't been. I'd say a good day trip is Bruges.
We stayed in the Welcome Hotel, which someone here recommended and then Samantha Brown on the Travel Channel featured on Passports to Europe. It is a small, unique hotel, each room decorated in different Asian themes. It is about a 10 minute walk to the Grand Plas in Brussels.
We were there in October, so no flowers, but we really enjoyed it. The Flower carpet looks amazing. Maybe next time.

The Flower Carpet is only assembled every two years in the Brussels Grand Place. The last Flower Carpet was displayed in 2008 so you'll have to wait until 2010 to see it again. Here is some more info on the carpet: http://www.brussels-belgium-travel-g...wercarpet.html

I have been, and it was fantastic, even though it was raining(ah Belgium). If you get there a day early, you can watch them assemble it. Be sure to go up into the government building to get an areal view and see the flowers inside. Well worth a visit.
