Florence hotels? someplace very nice wanted!

First, thanks for all the Rome in-sight...Moving on to Florence. We will only have 2 nights in Florence but we really want someplace nice in the $200-300 price range. We looked at Hotel Torre Guelfa and liked it but the terrace room is booked. We would really like a terrace of our own.

Also, we are planning on staying 2 nights in Tuscany (Montalcino). Do you think we can combine these two and take a day or 2 to go to Florence from Tuscany??? We are so torn with this one.

Thanks

I just got back a few days ago and stayed at the Savoy. Loved it, great location, beautiful boutique hotel.

We stayed at Hotel Antica Torre Tornabuoni. The Hotel is actually in a medieval tower. It is on Via Tornabuoni which is the fashionable shopping street in Florence and within easy walking distance of everything. We had a room with a terrace from which we could see the Arno and the Duomo. Check out the website www.1http://www.tornabuoni1.com/) A fabulous breakfast was included and we would stay there again in a heartbeat.
The hotel is very small, but I really recommend it.
