Hotel Casci. Good location, hotel owners very helpful (family owned), free computer use, better than most included breakfast. I think the price would fit your budget; it's been several years since we stayed there (we paid less than $150 for a double room).

Hotel Casci, definitely. Have stayed there four times, loved it. Ranked third on tripadvisor. Nothing fancy, BUT terrific location, spotlessly clean, outstanding owners and workers and reasonably priced for Florence.

One of the many hotels I like in Florence is the Hotel Giglio, http://www.hotelgiglio.fi.it/english/ just beyond the San Marco Museum. While not as conveniently located as the Hotel Casci, it's in a very pleasant location.
The rooms are spacious and pleasantly decorated, spotlessly clean, and the family owner/managers are very welcoming and helpful. And the price is right!
The rooms are on the second floor (3rd floor in U.S.). There is an elevator in the building.
The family also owns the Osteria del Cinghiale Bianco at Borgo S. Jacopo 43, a very good and friendly restaurant just across from the Ponte Vecchio. (Besides the excellent food and the opportunity to sample wild boar, I loved the vaulted ceiling and the private little mezzanine level table with its own open staircase.)
Hotel Giglio is a relatively new hotel and so sometimes has availability when the older, more established hotels do not. When I visited, the manager's father was making a fresh fruit salad for breakfast at the bar. We met him later that day as the host at the Osteria del Cinghiale Bianco, and we were greeted like friends.

We were very happy with the Hotel Globus. Clean, quiet, pleasant, decent breakfast and the staff were very helpful. It's near the San Lorenzo market and an easy walk to everywhere (about 10 minutes to the Duomo).
We had a very large central room. It had no view (2 airshafts) but it was very big and quiet plus it had an extra small room with a single bed in it. It would have been perfect for a couple traveling with a child but we used the extra room for our suitcases.
