Thanks neckervd. We've walked some of the the Ruinaulta Gorge (in summer). Wouldn't be my choice in winter for the very reasons you've mentioned. We'll be going up as much as possible - seeking the winter sun.

No wisdom to offer just good wishes for your trip.
I really enjoy reading your reports and taking in all the planning.
We missed out this year on visiting our favourite (summer) mountain places, for all sorts of messy reasons, but with retirement happening very soon we look forward to heading off multiple times next year- albeit we South Aussies are not too good for winter hiking.

Thank you love_travel. I hope the SA summer isn't too brutal this year (as I type those words I have to wonder if there's even such as thing as a non-brutal SA summer).
