Expedia Trip Cancellation Question???
Just in case my husband and I do not start speaking to eachother by next week, wanted to get some insight into cancelling tickets purchased on Expedia. I read their policy, but I was wondering if anyone has ever done it and not lost all their money.

I have a feeling you are out of luck. A fight with your husband does not qualify as an emergency in the eyes of the airlines.
Depending on the fare class it might be possible to get a credit for future travel for part of the ticket. That said on some airlines re-ticketing fees are so high that they eat up the "cheap" airfare.

I don't think Calamari is referring to airline tickets, as Expedia is just a travel agent like any other, in that regard.
I assume the item in question is a complete hotel/vacation package or something Expedia itself sells that is nonrefundable.

Get a medical certificate from the doctor for some "complaint", then your insurer will reimburse the cost of your trip, mine does this for a nominal fee. Expedia won't refund tickets, as far as they are concerned it's your problem even if your arm was hanging off.

If you paid with a US credit card, you may simply refuse to pay, but keep ALL documentation of cancellations, etc!
I have never had a problem!
Full disclosure - I have a professional relationship with a high powered litigation firm here in DFW.

I suspect that if you DO try to simply not pay the credit card bill you'll have trouble...you can do so for "non-delivery of goods and services" but I doubt you'll have much luck with "because I decided not to go." Once the CC issuer gets the full story (and they WILL investigate because they want their own fee, too) you may be out of luck.
Mr. "I have a relationship with..." whomever it is...I can se WHY he might have that relationship...it's probably akin to fraud.
Call you MIL and tell HER what's going on if you dare...I suspect in this case that might serve you better than any "high-powered" attorney. Good luck.

DH is over whatever was buzzing around in his touqe. Trip is back on as planned. I have never purchased travel insurance in my life. I guess I should look into that for next time. Thanks for all the tips and input.

Calamari - Glad to hear everything is back on track. FYI - I had air/hotel with Expedia a few years ago and when we arrived I didn't like the hotel and cancelled it and stayed elsewhere. I had to pay a cancellation fee but it wasn't all that expensive. I wasn't charged for the hotel just the cancellation fee.
