Edinburgh 2006 Recommendations/Reviews

Hi,
We're going to attend the Edinburgh festival this year. I want to order tickets in advance, and I would like to know where I can find recommendations and reviews by critics for the fringe, music, dance shows. So far I've only found reviews of 2005 shows.
Thanks!!!
Shari

There was a heap of info on here the other day about the festival (think it was from caroline edinburgh) so type in Edinburgh and see what you get.

here is the thread carlyspall mentions http://www.fodors.com/forums/threads...p;tid=34823041

A lot of the shows are premiers so you won't be seeing reviews before they open.

Hi Shari. The programme for each festival is different each year, so there won't be any reviews until the shows have actually started - all you can do is browse each festival's programme. (I think the main festivals' websites are on the other thread.)

But if you let me know your interests, I can perhaps recommend venues which are a good bet : for instance, if you are into good contemporary drama, the Traverse Theatre (www.traverse.so.uk) is the place to be and you should check out their own programme when it's out (should be any day now). Their programme is part of the Fringe so their shows are also listed in the Fringe programme, but their own programme will give more details.

The International Festival (www.eif.co.uk) is the one you want for 'serious' music, dance, theatre & opera.

When are you arriving and where do you live ? If it's some way through August, but prior to that you have access to the Scotsman newspaper (for lots of reviews every day) or any 'quality' British national newspaper (for a few reviews each day - I like the Guardian the best), you can start checking their reviews as soon as the festivals start.

Or just get the Scotsman each day you are here and see what you like the sound of. Very few things sell out in advance - just the 1 play a year featuring famous actors, which sells out about halfway through; a handful of famous comedians; a few classical music concerts and a few book festival events.
