All I can tell you is don't get in the left-hand lane unless you are going over 100mph. They must be doing that or faster. You can hear them whizz by and if you blink you will not see the car.

We had no problems in the other lanes. Germany was easy to drive in.

You probably know this, but pay attention to where the bridges and ferries are on the map. The Rhine has few bridges but some convenient ferries; the Mosel has more bridges. It took a bit of planning to end up on the side of the river we wanted to be on at any given point.

3 of us flew into Frankfurt and relied on train travel to Bacharach as our base for 3 nights. We trained to St. Goar, Cochem, etc. So reasonable with the day passes that allow up to 5 people on one ticket! We didn't want to drive and everyone enjoyed the scenery (and a beer or two or three!). We then rented a car for our drive south to the castles and Munich. Perhaps we're used to California freeway driving, but the Autobahn was no big deal whatsoever. Perhaps a combo of train and rental car would work for you as well.

Leaving tomorrow and VERY excited about seeing the 26 year old son that I have not seen since February!I quess since the hubs is not going that I won't be able to sample the wines or "Reisling ice cream" along the way but oh well-I am with my kids that I so enjoy traveling with!
I am thinking of ditching the minivan and going with our Mercedes E class now that there are only 3 of us? Wish me luck!
