dublin 6 hour layover

We(my 7 and 10 year old child) have a 6 hour layover flying from the US to Rome. Is it worth it to go into Dublin or is it more of a hassle. I'm not sure how far away the airport is and whether traffic will be a factor at 9:00 AM. Any thoughts will be appreciated.

Malahide or Howth are close to the airport. The fresh sea air & the walk around either place would be a welcome break. Traffic at 9.00 would be appalling.

Thanks, great idea. Does Aerdart still have service to from the airport to Howth. According to the website, they say that service is suspended until further notice.

The aerdart has gone. If anybody wants to see some of Europe`s oldest buildings (about 5,000 years old) get a car at the airport and visit Newgrange and Knowth, about 30 miles north of the airport and just a few miles off the M1 motorway.First though read about them on www.knowth.com - they may not be your cup of tea.Three or four hours should see you back at the airport.

I like johngerards advice.
If it were me with my 2 grandchildren of the same age, I'd get a taxi to Malahide or Howth. They will enjoy walking around, looking at the sea, having a snack at a tea shop and window shopping. I like the lay out of Malahide. Not to hilly.
