Driving with four in Germany
We are going to Germany at the end of July for the Formula 1 race and then driving around the Southwest part of the country. There are four adults and we are staying ten days, so baggage is an issue.
What does anyone recommend for car rentals for this many people and baggage?
Thank you!!!

10 days doesn't have to equal a ton of luggage. Many of us do 10 days (or 4+ weeks for that matter) w/ just carry on's or maybe a 24 inch checked bag.
For 4 w/ a moderate amount of luggage -a midsize will usually work. Go on the autoeurope site (or whoever else you want to rent from) and they will show the amount of luggage space for each class of car.

Agree with janisj that it's important to keep your luggage to a minimum. We've traveled in a group of 4 adults to Europe and limited ourselves to a 21" bag and a small day bag each. We rented a Ford Mondeo station wagon and found we had plenty of room for our luggage.
You can also call Andy Bestor at www.Gemut.com and they can find you a car that will accommodate 4 adults and your luggage. They come highly recommended on Fodor's as well as AutoEurope.

Yes, if you're just doing normal touring and don't need your grand ball gowns and tuxedos, then a 21 or 22 inch bag should really be sufficient. HOWEVER, I do know that there are a lot of folks who just can't bring themselves to do with that size bag. So the advice to contact Andy Bestor is excellent-we've had wonderful dealings with gemut. Actually, even if you will be using smaller bags, Andy is a great resource.

We had 4 people and moderate luggage and couln't fit it into a C class Mercedes. (We usually just have 2 people so luggage not a problem.)
Somehow the ars in europe all seem to hae much tinier trunks than in the US - and less powerful engines.
I would look into either the largest sedan you can find (and limit luggage) or check out something like an SUV with extra room.
