Dress Code in Italy
My husband is clothing impaired. We are travelling 4/26 to 5/10 to
Rome for 3 days
Castellina in Chianti for 4 days (including a 6 hour trip through Florence)
Cortona for 3 days
Venice for 3 days
My husband is a fisherman and his general attire is shorts with dock shoes (very nice dock shoes)! and a t-shirt with fish on it!
He's ok with khaki's and is willing to try his best although he is very stubborn!
Can anyone tell me where of these places he can "dress down," and wear shorts? I understand no shorts in churches. . .
This question is for male dressing only. I think I'm up to the task for myself!
THANK YOU. The responses I get in this forum are nothing short of amazing!

Why is it that I suspect your husband knows when to ditch the Field and Stream routine?
Does he wear that stuff to church at home? To the office? To visit the in laws?
Let him be stubborn; shouldn't affect what you wear in the least and if it hasn't affected how you feel about him by now, well....

Dukey, you gotta be a man! You're reply made me laugh. He probably does know when to ditch the Field and Stream routine, LOVE IT!
However, what made me laugh is he doesn't go to church, he would wear fishing shorts and t-shirts to my folks home, and he wears khaki shorts and Hawaiian shirts to work (in the summer) as he is a realtor in the beach resort town where we live!
BUT I see your point. . .give the guy some credit, right!? He'll bring a pair or two and figure it out himself. That goes for jeans and sneakers as well (at least his sneakers are black).
Thanks for your frank reply!

Wearing shorts, he won't be able to enter a church in Italy, not even for a touristic visit. The Italians require decent dress as a sign of respect towards their religion. Visitors should accept that. No bare knees, no bare shoulders or chests. No spaghetti tops for women.
The T-Shirt with fish on it will be all right - the fish is a Christian symbol, after all
- but he'll need at least one pair of pants.

Spring can be very changeable in Italy. It might be warmish - or it might be about 50 and pouring rain.
Perhaps just point out to him the average temps and frequency of rain - and the need for at least TWO pair of walking shoes (unless he doesn;t mind soggy feet).
